You did a great job telling of your husband's selective amnesia. He did have an eventful life. I like the way you ended your little story with a contrast of what you remember compared to his memory.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Well written with a lot of examples and humor. Not surprising that we remember the things we should forget because they caused us embarrassment and damaged our ego. But you're right. It would have better to remember your courtship and the cute things about the children. Humor abounds in the paragraph involving his obsession with your causing his demise.

I think we males are amnesiacs quite naturally, Elaine remembers all the family's birthdays, whereas I remember only a few, she can pinpoint the significant points in our marriage, the chronological times of events in my kid's lives and the grands, I remember a fair bit, but not specifics, beautifully written Beth,, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy, I meant this as a humorous piece, with no disrespect to my late husband. He thought it was funny, so I hope others do as well.

This is hilarious! Thinking about it, I think most men suffer from selective amnesia. It's something in their DNA, I think. You are very funny, and we need more things to laugh about these days. Thanks for sharing this.

Excellent writing. I think men have selective amnesia anyway. They always seem to forget important dates like a birthday or anniversary. I love this short story and enjoyed every word.

We all have selective amnesia. For me, I only have happy memories for my many vacations so far and we will travel even more hopefully when I'm fully retired. I do remember a lot of our travels. But I wish I have written done more details. When we travel, we are usually doing things are active like hiking so I can eat whatever I want which is a plus.

Well done

It is good that you are selecting to remembering the good parts of the trips. You also have memories of some very bad times in you life as your remember what happened at the square. That would be hard to forget. Thanks for review.

This is a well-written story about the differences in your recollections and your husband's. One has to wonder what trauma he went through as a child and teenager, that has blocked it all from his memory. I can now understand your later posts, when you remind him of all your remember, Beth. Interesting.

Thank you Judy, You are right. In my opinion, he needed to have some better times reinforced. However, if he was hearing me, it would be the not so good things, he would remember. He didn't have a bad life growing up. It was only the good memories he blocked out. He told me other bad memories from his childhood like when his mom and dad didn't speak to each other for a whole year, and he was afraid his dad might kill his uncle. Unfortunately, he remembered all that quite clearly, but I think his siblings blocked it out. They always acted like their childhood was wonderful.

Selective amnesia. Believe everyone suffers from a touch of that from time to time. Comical recall of several events. One of the many reasons biographies are so interesting. Well done.

Sorry, I have no six, but I must come to Evan's defense. With men, we have selective hearing and void memories because of ugly past experiences especially military life. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Chuck, I wrote this, all in fun, a long time ago. Evan got a laugh out of it, because I always teased him about not remembering anything good about his childhood, but all the bad memories really stood out. We did have some disagreement over trips we tried to take, when the kids were young. He reluctantly gave in to please me but he perferred staying home.

The objective correlative of the story, as evinced in its title reminisces a husband's selective retention of painful and fear inspiring happenings in his memory as against amiable occurrences, which were seldom retained.

The work highlights his wife's recapitulation of painful cum fear inspiring occurrences her husband have had retained in his memory and the happy ones he seldom remembered.

The work earns its texture through the effective use of sarcasms and an array of correlating anecdotes.

Excellent work. Keep the flag flying.
