An appropriate choice of art
work, a light house to steer
a course from life's rocky
shores.
Your writing paints an equally
appropriate of steering your
ship of life away from the
shoals that others have harbored
their lives in and seek new paths
away from these depressing avenues
that others have traveled before
and run up into the rocks.
Well done and good luck

This is a good work. It has an internal rhythm. However, the words are not as picturesque as they should have been.I like the line "By learning from the ones with heads hung low". Poetry thrives on mental pictures. Kudos.

Yet another masterpiece from your pen! I had considered entering this competition myself - I'm glad I didn't as I've no chance against your genius. No criticisms, the poem is perfect - and a grand moral and example it shows.
All the best.

A good lesson: We're not preordained to become like our parents. We do have free-will. Sometimes the best examples are bad examples. Your poem expresses this quite well. Well-done and good luck in the contest. Gary

Nice poem. I especially liked the second verse as I can totally connect with it. It's good because it's short, but gets to the meaning really fast and has a great positive feel about it

Very nice, both the point it makes and how it was executed. The decision one makes about how s/he is going to approach life is one of the most important s/he will make, affecting not only her/himself, but all with whom s/he interacts in life.
Well done.

Hi Sweetkid, I love your poem. If this is biographical, I admire you.
For me, life is like a garden full of beautiful flowers but once in a while we also get unwanted weeds, we must get rid of them. Same with people the negative ones should be removed from our lives and go on.
Your entry is beautiful. I wish you luck. Ana

We all have to be aware of negativity within our lives. One can have a hard life to live, if feeling negative and lost.
Yes one has to walk away from negativity. One should write their negative thoughts down and write positive alternatives.
Our world is full of unhappy people.
We should live our lives to the fullest and be happy.
Great writing.
Honeytree.

Well it is true and strange that after my parents have passed that I seem to find the best of the more positive aspects of both of there worlds. I felt this was well written and enjoyable; also an important lesson.
