Nice write! I can't wait to read the connection between the two families / children.
Only a couple of suggestions:
"had decided to like (DELETE SPACE) wise abstain from alcohol."
"hard-core" should be hyphenated.

This was a very good chapter, it was well written and very informative, there was very little grammar error that I could find so why even mention them, I thank you for sharing this with us and wish you a happy new year.
