I had an interfering mother too so I can relate well to your story, Beth. And the thing is, when you're that age, a third party can really spoil the natural progression of a relationship forever. Fortunately you recovered the situation and got your friendship back on track. But you never seemed short of suitors:)) An enjoyable read with some nice detail about drive-in movies which, for me, are classically American. Thank you for sharing. Debbie

Thank you, Debbie. I guess it is hard for mothers to stay neutral if the think their child is making a mistake. I stayed out of my kids love life and they did make mistakes, which they couldn't blame on me.

It would be difficult being a teenager still in high school and dating someone who had already been overseas in a war and knew much more about the world than you. But it seems he had patience and everything worked out.

Thank you, Carol. In the end the age difference didn't matter except being older I had to give him up before I was ready but we still had 61 years together.

You have such wonderful quality in your writing. You have w great talent for writing bout your life. Funny, because my romance also began with letter-writing. That really helped our relationship, because I was very timid about asking someone out. When I met my wife, I felt I knew her already.

Wow! You are lucky Evan was understanding.
Nicely written. Error-free as near as I can tell.

Thank you, Marilyn. I tried to stay out of kid's lives when it came to serious relationship, but they some mistakes on their own without my help. At least they couldn't blame me for them.

I used to have dreams that I was dressed in a wedding dress and was climbing out of a bathroom window anytime I felt a guy I was dating was getting too serious. It never happened with my husband. I took that as a sign. I'm so enjoying hearing about this. My guess is your dad knew he had raised you right and respected your decision. Mom's tend to try to fix things. This is most entertaining. Thank you, Gretchen, That is such a funny dream. You must have watcher Runaway Bride. I ran away from the right on for a while. At least you recognized him when you as being 'the one.' I'm so glad you find this entertaining.

This relationship is so cute. I enjoyed reading about it. I am really enjoying reading your memoirs. They are honest and homey. I like that combination and you're doing a good job writing them.

I enjoyed listening to your story about your first date with Evan. The very first date that I ever went on was with my husband when I met him in 1958 so I was already 20 years old and out of high school. I did not know what to expect, but the one thing that I knew was the man that I was looking at looked like a very hopeful promise for a marriage partner. He turned out to be exactly that. It seems that it turned out for you much the same way with a very respectful man. I did not have parents around to approve or disapprove of my dating my husband. Patricia.
