What a wonderfully busy day it's been down at the brook! These late autumn days have been extremely warm. But it's only 32 degrees here today. So winter is coming. Thank you for making me smile I'm glad the dragonfly survived the frog attack.

hi June. I love dragonflies and they eat so many mosquitoes which helps us. Thank you so much for the shiny stars and for your lovely review. Both are greatly appreciated.

Oh!!!!!! I LOVED it all, but especially this --
"They stop to watch a honey bee,
that's not aware that they can see.
They watch it dodge the frog's long tongue,
and fly away to hives far-flung."
How evocative, and what adventure!

Great poem. Fun and whimsical, but with an underlying current of the realities of nature. This captures the beauty and fierce nature that's all around us, and especially in your The Babbling Brook.
Well done.

Wow- what a poetic delight, nay a meditation. Just think of all these wondrous 'events' quietly unfolding in the natural world while we humans fuss and fume around- the final two lines are simply inspirational.

This is a classic romantic pastoral celebration of nature in poetry. You have that classic rhymed couplet structure, a nice sublime, contemplative voice in the construction, and wonderful, colorful images of nature and the interconnected web of nature that creates the ecosystem we need to survive estory

I love the picture used for this wonderful poem.
Way back during the 1960's before leaving for Veit Nam my wife and I took time to be alone and found a flowing brook. No words were needed. For some reason we knew everything would be okay.
Every time things got rough, I thought about that brook.
Thank you.

What a charming vision of a snippet of time in nature's great tapestry.
The way you weave the inter-relationship of all the creatures in and around the brook, all observed through the eyes of children, flying kites in the afternoon sun.
Thank you for sharing.

I grew up with a river in my backyard, but my favorite place was nearby - a shallow creek in the woods. Your description was perfect and brought back a few happy memories of walking barefoot in the water and listening to all the birds. It was my peaceful spot. You did a magical job of putting me there...minus the bear of course. LOL

Hello Pam.
I grew up around babbling brooks. I always tried to imagine they were talking to me. They were not. The babbling brook is an interesting place. It is teeming with life inside and outside the water. It constantly reminds us of what life is like. The brook continues to flow without commenting and all of the activities happen in the little circles around the brook.
Your narrative was outstanding, and the story was a reminiscence for me. The visual image you created is very good for the reader.

Brooks are one of my favorite things. So beautiful and relaxing. We have them all over here in Maine and I love finding them on hikes in the woods where not many people have managed to discover them. Your poem brings it to life with your vivid descriptions. Soon the ones here will be iced over but they are still beautiful and often the water will keep flowing through the winter. Thanks for sharing.
