I wasn't quite clear about the meaning of the poem but there is grieving and there is relating to the bird who returns to an empty nest so there is loss of little ones. Lovely presentation.
Suggestion:
as the hen carries (mother bird?) I know chickens go up to trees but typically they nest on the ground.

I checked several sites, mother birds are called hen too. I will add it in my notes.

I'm sorry this one didn't resonate with you. I think sometimes my poetic concepts are too abstract for you... having a more logical thinking process. The concept is poetic in an abstract way... using imagination... I am inspired by Spanish and Chilean poets that wrote like that.

The theme is death and grief. The nest is empty. The woman's lover is dead on the other side ... of life. The river is life. I use nature motif to explain her emotions.

Thank you very much, big sister.

    Love ❤️

Okay! Thanks for the explanation! You're right - sometimes I'm too literal! 😊💞

Thank you for being honest reviewer. I did go through and made some changes, plus, I added the meaning of the poem in my author notes.

This is a poignant questioning verse, seemingly about loss and heartbreak, infused with a darkness and inability to navigate the distance that separates. Thank you for sharing this atmospheric verse. Take care Debbie

(What) will I do with this meadow

When I reviewed it, it was missing the 'What' at the beginning of the first line and simply read 'will I do with this meadow.' (I note it's there now)
