Wow, I was so moved by this true story that I wanted to cry. Instead, all I can offer is a sixer for this inspiring tale of a small town in Texas that made good on a woman's prayer. This was all at once entertaining and full of hope for all the children who need adoption.
Thank you for sharing this magnificent story that tells of how a small town can make a big difference.

Hello Jesse,
thanks so much for the exceptional review and your stirring comments. It was indeed a moving story. When I was looking more into the movie, I saw several interviews with the pastor. This took place back in 1997, but the movie just came out. The kids have gone on to lead productive lives, something that couldn't have happened if not for the love of the people of Possum Trot. It kind of leaves us without excuse, if the poorest amongst us can step up to the plate. Have a blessed day.

I was glad to do it. You wrote a moving story and it deserved a sixer.
It does make you wonder, if the poorest of the poor can do it why can't we?
Too much greed. There is too much indifference to the sad state of so many of us.
So many of us are one paycheck away from being homeless.
Take care,
Jesse

This is a wonderful commentary on the movie. Actually, at seventy-two, you could still take in teenagers. The problem for them is that foster homes send them out into the world at 18 and they are on their own. Some would be happy to have a home and food just so they can go to trade school or college. Our first three kids were adopted at 9 and 10. The ten-year old never wanted a settled house and had four kids that we took custody of. Sadly, our brilliant one graduated from college and had his masters degree before he developed mental problems and committed suicide this past April. His sister is going for her masters, one of his brothers is an electrician, and the other is a trucker. Their mother died of cancer when they were in their early 20s. The two oldest children are very successful and looking toward early retirements.

Hello Carol,
I suppose you're quite right. It's not something that I could take on by myself, my wife would have to be in total agreement. I can certainly pray about it though.
I'm so pleased to hear that you stepped up to the plate and met the needs of so many kids. Well done gal! I'm sorry to hear about your one son. I'm sure it was devastating news to receive. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Have a blessed evening.

Actually, any of your kids living nearby would have to be part of it also. Our oldest daughter has always been incredibly jealous of the youngest granddaughter, so they do not get along. Otherwise, it is one big happy family.

I truly enjoyed reading this uplifting and inspiring story that proves there are still good people helping other people. If we can't actually adopt a child, there are other ways we can volunteer to help enrich the lives of needy children. I've done it. If the movie shows up on a platform I can access at home, I will be sure to watch it. Thanks for the info.

Hello LJ,
it was indeed an inspiring movie. I watched an interview with the bishop and he mentioned that God will provide for whatever needs come up when we obey His commands. He also said that the Lord didn't say it would be easy, and it hasn't been, but it's been very fulfilling, an it certainly made a big difference in the life of those kids. Thanks for the wonderful review gal.
Have a blessed evening.

That does sound like a wonderful, inspiring movie. I believe it's on HBO now, but I'm sure it will stream on other platforms soon. Just amazing how the whole town got involved in those adoptions. Thanks for sharing that information with us, Tom. I will be sure to watch it when it becomes available to other streaming services.

Hi Jim,
I was glad that our movie theatre ran it. I'm too cheap to pay for Netflix or one of the other services. The company that made it was Angel Studios, the same people who made the movie The Sound of Freedom, that exposed sex trafficking of children. Its so hard to believe the number of kids around the world that are exploited. I think the US is the biggest market. That truly distresses me. Thanks for the great review my friend.
Have a blessed evening.

A lovely and inspiring story, Tom, with a very happy ending. We should all listen to either God or our conscience in situations like this. After all, in an ideal world, the community is our family and we should be looking outwards not forever in. Thank you for sharing this heart-lifting story. Take care Debbie

Hello Debbie,
thanks so much for the delightful review. Obviously God doesn't want these children to be left to the state to take care of. Government does a lousy job of providing for the spiritual and emotional needs of children. This poor community certainly set a high bar for the rest of us.
Have a blessed evening gal.

AMEN!!! Thank you for sharing this inspiring post with us. We could all do more. We just need to listen to God's prompt and do what He wants us to do. I am sure He prompted you to write this post and share it.

Hi Barbara,
thanks so much for the wonderful review gal. As often happens, if it was indeed the Lord who wanted me to share this, I didn't act on it as soon as I should have. I can't really say why, I suppose because I was weighing the message against how it would be received. God's got a lot of work to do on me yet. I truly appreciate your support gal. Have a blessed evening.

Hi Ric,
as always, it's good to hear from you. Not all movie studios choose to show it unfortunately. The same company that exposed child sex trafficking, Angel Studios, put out this movie. When I looked up the bishop prior to doing this post, I saw where he had been interviewed on several national TV news programs. This story took place in 1997, even though the movie just came out. It was really encouraging to hear how the kids all turned out. As the bishop mentioned though, God doesn't say that what He's asking us to do is going to be easy, it wasn't, but they didn't give up, and a whole bunch of upright citizens are the result of the faithfulness of those folks. Thanks so much for the great review.
Have a blessed evening.

Your heart is showing big time, my friend. Your notes and the story brought tears to my eyes and I feel blessed to learn that we still have good people in this country who are willing to open their hearts up to help, regardless of what they themselves may have or have not. Awesome!

Hello Carol,
thanks so much for the delightful review. I was totally impressed that these poor people would be willing to open their hearts and their homes to the most needy amongst us. I honestly don't know if I have what it takes to do what they did. We raised seven kids and I don't know if I could do it again, but who knows, if God speaks, I may have to reconsider.
Have a blessed evening gal.

Tom, this is so great to read, especially in this dark time. It shows me that in the Lord, we can create light for ourselves and others. What an amazing story. Yes, I know what's it like to be poor and fatherless. Our dad left us when I was just four, right after Suzanne had been born. Thankfully, we had a Mama who didn't give up on us, and she did all she could to keep us together. It was no small task. Our paternal grandparents helped us out for a long time. Mama worked a long day and took a bus into Atlanta. She was gone from 7-7pm. I carried a lot of responsibility at a young age, so did my older brothers.
Family is so important and I ache for those who don't have someone to call family, especially a child. I'm so blessed to read this, my friend. I sincerely want to see this movie and I'll watch for it on video. I can't see enough to go to the movies these days because my retinas don't process light very well, if at all.
Sending you and yours my very best today as always.

Hello Sally,
I'm so glad that your mother stepped up to the plate and didn't take the easy way out. I'm sure there were days when she was tried to the nth degree. Raising children is a two person job, and unfortunately, there are far too many women who are left to do the job themselves.
This movie just came out, but the events took place in 1997. It caught the attention of several news organizations as well as other outlets, and when I was getting ready to do this post, I looked at several interviews with the bishop. He started to explain during one interview at a church how God didn't say it would be easy, but that Jesus said that in this world we would have trouble, but we can't let that stop us from doing what we're called to do. I hope you get a chance to see this. Have a blessed evening my friend.

Thank you for the clarification. My husband said it just came to the movie theatres. I'll have to wait until I can watch it at home. I'm praying for you and for the many that need a home or have love to offer.

It sounds like this was a very inspiring movie. Some seemt to be able to accomplish so much. All of us should stay in tune to God's voice. I think we will know when he wants us to act and if we are truly willing to be used He will show how. If the movie isn't on Amazon Prime it likely soon will be.

Hello Beth,
I think if we're receptive to God's voice, He'll certainly tell us what we're supposed to do. One thing is certain, we can all do something. The needs across the whole world are so great, and we have been blessed so much as a country, that we can't afford to turn a blind eye. Thanks so much for your thoughtful review gal.
Have a blessed evening.
