Your poem brought back memories of when I had to do the same thing to my wonderful, loving companion. Good for you for being with him when he passed! It was hard to hold back a few tears as I read this. Thank you!

I know of this and can relate. I lost my dog of 21 years to cancer. I drove him to the vet and had him put to sleep while I petted him. I cried so hard the veterinarian offered to call me a cab. What a scene I made.
I'm so sorry for you loss. :(( What a sweet little dog.
