Even when you do repeat a story, you do give us fresh new details like the glowing cow jumping over the moon. Or perhaps I didn't remember that detail. I do remember about the cute guy who entertained you during the train ride.

Thank you Helen. People say I have a good memory but you have me beat, at least, about more recent thing. You are almost the only one who remember what I'eve written about before.

You described a very scary situation for a young girl and her mother that is hard to fathom. Drink soldiers hitting on a mother and her young daughter is appalling. The behavior of the soldiers was disgusting. I'm sorry you had o experience that.

Thank you for the review and comments. Back in the 40's many things seemed safer than today, but on the other hand, men seemed to feel they had a right to hit on women and women had very little recourse other than try to ignore them.

Your chapter is infused with great detail: the smell of the black smoke, the whiskey on the soldiers' breath, the clamour and excitement, not just of where you were going but of the incredible machine that was going to get you there. A lovely contrast, too, between your reaction to the soldiers and that of your mother. This is good writing Beth and your narrative is well constructed and flows well from point to point. The story draws your reader in to the aspects of train travel and how it wasn't always so pleasant. I enjoyed reading it.

This was very engrossing. You could be another Mark Twain, writing of life along the Mississippi. When in Shreveport, were you anywhere near the Sulfur River bottoms, where the Foulk Monster supposedly prowled?

Thank you Jim. All I remember about Shreveport was almost missing the train. When I went there later by car, I remember a very scary bridge and almost getting arrested by cops on my way there on still another trip but that is yet another adventure.

I'll be awaiting that adventure. I just asked because I probably saw "The Legend Of Boggy Creek" a hundred times and though it is cheaply made and cheesy, there's a quality about it that is very entertaining.
