I really enjoyed reading this piece and I appreciate the time you took to write it. I am thankful for our freedoms. Taking our freedoms as a given is how we lose them. I hope many more get to read your work.

Thanks so very much, Chip, and welcome to FanStory. I felt an obligation to write my poem more from what I remembered I was taught early on and that was to pay tribute to our flag, our service members and our freedom. I am the kind that still has tears when the National Anthem is played. So I didn't want to yuck it up with anything from the recent days of politics. Also thank you for the very kind review and comments.
    Love, Debi

Very nice and fitting for the time. Military service runs deep in our family and the day has a special feel for us. I wish more people would take the time to reflect on the gifts that have been bestowed on our country and express less anger and more humility. Thanks for sharing it. Have a happy 4th.

It is so good to hear from you, Joanne. It is also nice that so many are on board with our vets and our flag. I fear if we don't keep writing and talking about it, will it be lost on the next generation.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the kind words for my Independence poem. And also for the generous stars.
It all means the world to me.

Thanks again, my dear friend. Love, Debi

Hi Debi . I?m missing cantor I was off work for awhile had more time to write but now back to work so it?s difficult to get time here.

Well thank you Joanne, and good to see you again. I don't know what cantor means tho. Sorry. Did you write here while you were off, because I didn't see any of your writing? I know I would have for sure come your way.

What a great way to celebrate and remember Independence Day and what it means to us. I have ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War, and subsequent battles and wars. We never want to forget how we got the freedoms we have today. Thanks for reminding us, Debi--well done!

Thank you Gayle, and I appreciate your kindness, my dear friend.
You have every right to be proud of your ancestors too and I celebrate with you thanking them for their service. It doesn't matter what country they are serving or what century or war. Patriotism is what really counts. This coming from a woman who still cries during the National Anthem.
Thanks again, dear friend. Love, Debi

This is a terrific poem dedicated to the lineage of heroes who have faced down the dogs of war over the many years. We can only remember them and honor that memory as long as we can.

Bill, I have so much patriotism in my heart that I can hardly sing the National Anthem without tears each time. So first and most important, I would like to thank you for your outstanding service to our country.

I fear that if we don't keep teaching the grandkids the importance of the attitude and that feeling that we will be the last generation. Yet, there are so many like your grandkids that knew what that means, so I hope it gets carried on somehow.

Thanks also for the awesome review and words and also for the six stars for this one. So appreciated, my friend. Love, Debi

Not just the States celebrate, there are many countries (including ours) that give thought to Independence Day.
Yes, fireworks is one word. You have written a great poem for the celebration. War has no gain, only pain for the living and it was said WW1 would be the war to end all wars, it was just the beginning. K xx

Hi Kace, so good to hear of so many who are so on board with our flag and the vets. I fear if we don't keep writing and talking about it, will it be lost on the next generation. And how kind of you to care. I just love you so much.

We used to love fireworks when I was growing up but there were too many accidents at home. Now, we have River Fire on Brisbane River ($38.000) worth on floating barges. Love, Kace.

Thank you for sharing this Independence Day poem Debi.
One of my uncles was killed in the Korean Conflict leaving a wife and one daughter and my cousin, just 2 years older than me, was killed in Vietnam leaving a wife and 4 children. So Independence Day is very special to my family too.
Blessings and Happy 4th.
Janet

I liked reading this. I was just about to look up patriotic poems, and this one stood out. Very nicely done with personal references.
Little fix:
It's two hundred forty Eight years
I think it would look better as
It's two hundred forty-eight years

Beautiful poem and tribute to our men and women in uniform and what they have sacrificed for our freedom. I can not understand what has happened and still happening to our country and how so many don't understand the true meaning of the Fourth of July. Thank you for sharing.
Smiles, Carol
