This is another well written chapter in your book about your youth I enjoyed listening to it very much it flows very well in it is well presented when rid of loud. I wish you the very best with all of your writing. The only memory I have of a movie when I was a youth is it our class took us into town to see a Christmas Carol the original. But that's the only movie I ever saw until I met my husband and we went to the Movie on our first date which was no Time for Sergeants. We enjoyed it but we were so busy talking that we had to say for the second playing of it in order to really really tell people what it was about. Patricia

I'm surprised that many of those on this site didn't see a lot of movies when they were young. Movies were so cheap back then and to those of us who weren't accustomed to watching them they broadened our world.

Another great chapter, Beth, with so much detail it's as if it all happened yesterday. Your child is growing up fast and with that self confident air that we've come to enjoy and expect. I particularly like the way you respond to Bill's kiss (very forthright and no nonsense!) Lovely, Beth! Take care Debbie

What a cutie! That's why you got kissed and no one else did. LOL I think your parents and mine were a generation that was very much alike. My parents never took us to movies or did anything either unless it was at a family members house or park. Great job! Can't wait to hear about the train ride.
Smiles, Carol

I can remember going to mobile matinees every Saturday with a load of others screaming kids, watching Hopalong Cassidy and Gene Autrey pursue and chase down down the baddies, but mum and dad went to Saturday night movies, and we went with them, I saw Bambino's, and was appalled at Bambi's mother dying, it really affected me, well done, blessings Beth, Roy

Most kid went to the Saturday matinees but if I went it was after school during the week. I never went to a drive in until I started dating.

How interesting.
We always either took camping vacations, or trips to see relatives.
Mary Poppins was my first movie - way after I became a teenager.
Best wishes.

You are one of the few who reviewed this that did very much with family when young but you were a little late getting to see movie. Thanks for review.

Our church did not believe in going to movies.
When we saw Mary Poppins it was after we moved to ca; California.

The Church Mom joined went I was six didn't believe in going to movies either. That is why Dad always told me not to tell my mother.

This chapter was a roller coaster of a ride, covering many topics. Nevertheless it gelled well. I liked the description of the kiss, but felt you could have gone into more details of the reactions. kay

Thank Katherine. Most of the chapters deal with several diffenent things which happen withing a certain section and never one continuous story. I really appreciate the review.

Fun and interesting read with lots of vignettes that you made vivid enough for me to perfectly "see." That's not easy just in general, let alone when the memories are so far back. You did great.

I did catch a couple spags for you:

1.) I was a country music fan, and I was upset they got to see Grandpa Jones, Little Jimmy Dickens and June Carter, **with(out)*** me being along
2.) Dad **with (would)** give me money for...
3.) so I chose to ignore**(d)** Bill as we walked out on the campus.
4.) her brother**(,)** Newman, who lived in Texas,
5.) without my input**.(,)** that I would

I will look forward to that next chapter. My mom would take me to the movies often. Once when I "graduated" Kindergarten, my dad and mom took us on a trin ride to New York. I was too immature for such a trip. t the end of the day, the only time my father was in a theater with me, we passed by posters featuring dinosaur monsters. My father refused. After a long tantrum, I had to sit through two boring war movies. I preferred the movies about giant creatures like "The Giant Claw" and "The Deadly Mantis". They weren't violent like today's movies, always featured a moral hero, and good triumphed over evil. It was those movies and others that gave me the writing bug.

Thanks to my mom, and the days when we didn't need movie ratings, and the large number of motion picture theaters back then, my mind was set to become a writer.

Your recollections paint a clear and touching portrait of a simpler time. I thought you did a great job capturing family life and childhood adventures. I enjoyed your stories especially your first movie outing. This is wonderfully written and so enjoyable to read.

Another interesting story from yesteryear. You reminded me of Saturday morning movies for a dime. Can you imagine that today? lol It was the best time ever with some great (really bad) horror movies. I think I do notice a typo that I will mention. In your title, did you mean to type Outings? Nice story. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for noticing that. I have three numb fingers on my left hand and I keep getting on the wrong home keys. After I stated going to the theater in my own, I saw some bad movies. There were no rating but they back then they didn't use bad words of have sex scenes. They were just bad acting and sometimes scary.
