"which at been mom's as she grew up" - change "at' to "had"

"Mom bought and owl shaped cookie jar" - change "and" to "an"

At least you had cookies to reward you for your boring practice:-)

"poured form the rooms" - "form" to "from"

What a riot with the curtains! Only you, Beth, can come up with these zany looks at your past!

A cooked rump, lol! Just like a roast. I'm glad you didn't leave this out:-)

Another funny piece from your life. You have a way of making the mundane interesting.

Thank you Pam. I find all those crazy things I went through back then to be funny, now that time has passed. I hated it when my mother repeated things I had done which made her laugh.

Fascinating stories of your childhood. Always interesting and well written, and I am sure they'll be enjoyed for generations to come. The story of the red-hot metal tub accident was horrifying, however - that would be a really bad burn. We used to call one of those pianos with the scroll music a "pianola". Looking orward to more.

Thank you Wendy, I think I might have heard that word for player piano as well. I'm happy you are enjoying my stories.

I enjoyed listening to your story and I feel sorry for you that you had those problems in school. I can add in fire with the one of your wedding your panties. I had that same problem when I was about that age and I always regretted not having some way to take care of myself because we had it, outdoor toilet and I would avoid going to the toilet because it's it's stunk. My mom was not very sympathetic with me and that made it even worse. Patricia .

Thank you Patricia. Yes those old outdoor toilet stank and had all kind of bugs and spiders around them. I should have been thrilled the actual restrooms at school but since it wasn't something familiar I avoided them for a while.

Well written.
Yes, it's more fun to write about catastrophes - plus, they are so much easier to remember.
I will never forget the kids laughing at me when an accidental fart escaped as I stood up to go to the blackboard.

This is very real and no one should laugh at you. I've been a teacher for decades now retired because of my MS condition. I can tell you, some of your descriptions show a girl that was living for your mom. It's not uncommon but it might lead to bed wetting and other anxiety or emotional conditions. We all go through something so you should never be ashamed. And, as a child, these feelings are powerfully worse than a n we can handle as adults. Thus was well written.

Best wishes,

Alex

Just a not in your Note

Thank you so much Alexandra, I really appreciate the nice review and the stars. I actually had a great self image as an only child. I was around nothing but adults and I was star of the show. Even though I couldn't wait to go to school there was a lot which came as a shock. I was no longer the only center of attention, but I realized I had refocus in order to cope. I didn't understand new things for me like the toilets, I didn't know how to flush. After a few months I learned my way around and wasn't so traumatized by the newness of it all. I do think mom tried to live vicariously through me in school. She had quite got to graduate and she wanted what she missed out on.

It sounds like you had an interesting life, I can see why you would want to chronicle it!

Some observations and things to work on:

The piece feels like it was taken out of a larger story, reinforced by the structure of the opening sentence. If you intend this to stand alone, look through and figure out how to best accomplish this.

The part about your mother being class mom feels unconnected to the rest of the story.

You wrote "I wasn't thrilled" twice.

Consider reworking the third paragraph, it is very awkward.

It is clear this is a first draft. Read the text aloud and you will hear what works, and what should be smoothed out. Good luck, I think you have the beginning of something special here.

You are a new reader who seldom posts anything,so you had no way of knowing this is a part of much larger book. I usually put that in the notes but i wasn't expecting a new reader. so it is understandable you wouldn't realize this. I'll add that to my notes in case I get another new reader.

I'm impressed with all the detail you remember, but I know that once you start recalling things, more things come to mind. Reading about your childhood experiences has made me think of my elementary school days. Six years old is such a vulnerable age when you're trying to figure out what the world is all about. You're doing a phenomenal job writing your story, and I am enjoying it.

Thank you for the review and comments. You are correct. When you start writing about it you think of things you might have not thought of in years. I guess it is all still there but that brain cell has to be activated in order to bring it to light.

Times sure have changed from time long ago. Children today just wouldn't realize that two generations past television was rare and the shows in black and white. indoor plumbing was for the rich and prayer came as naturally as breathing.

I think it was a while after WWII ended when television ever came to my part of the world. I remember my Dad telling me we never be able to have it because light traveled in a straight line an the curve of the earth would never allow it. He was no scientist but I believe4d. LOL
