Have you written about Joe and Virgie before? I sure found this familiar.

Good deeds are repaid. Your parents did good things for Joe (especially alerting the government to his needs and getting him help), and he repaid them with a lot of land.

An interesting read in your story of life in Mississippi. Thanks for sharing.

It is possible. I found a story on my word program about them but I didn't think I had posted it. This one is a little different from the one I found. I'll have to look in my portfolio and see. No one else has mentioned seeing it before.

You have certainly known some unusual characters Beth and your story is both entertaining and frightening too. Joe and his wives sound to me like people to avoid! Ha ha ha. My neighbourhood was much more private and contained. These personalities are loud and brash and I enjoyed your colourful story Beth, love Dolly x x x

Lovely story. Children are often a bit anxious and fearful of those who are "different". Joe probably did worry about his second wife in particular; living with a person with multiple personalities / schizophrenia would be very difficult. Well written.

Quite interesting. And very well written.
...in the old run-done house ... - run-down?
I'd guess Joe would have had to do something about solid furniture. Goodness.
Best wishes.

Your story moves me - especially of how kind your parents were to Joe. And you were just a normal kid and so I understand your issues with Joe. What a life he had and he lived so long just tending to his own land. Amazing! I remember that second wife that you mentioned before. I think your book is a great service to your childhood state because you show us real people not caricatures of people in a state known for racism.

Thank you so much Helen. Your words of encouragement mean so much to me. I'm glad you remember so much about other things I've written. I think a lot of people just skim the stories and write a review.

Wow! 600 pounds. Now she was a Biggie. And still gaining weight. I can understand why you resented the man. Nothing is more irritating than someone messing with personal things. Good one, Beth. Good luck with your book.

Thank you the nice review. Yes she was a hefty one. Joe didn't seem to mind the weight until she got crazy on him. Thanks for ther six stars.

Thanks for sharing Beth, as a child I think young females would be a little wary of strange ones like Joe. That was a marvellous story of joe, and what kindness to others can do, how generous to leave that acreage to your parents. How interesting that he really was self dependant, well done, blessings Roy

Good job showing the reader all the details and quirks about Joe and how he actually fit into your family in one way or another. It was nice that your parents looked out for him and that he generously repaid them when he died with his farm. Interesting life he had.

Thank you Carol. I wasn't to fond of Joe at times but he was very much apart of my growing up years, so I had to write about him.

It was about a five-minute walk away, unless I was inclined to dawdle and climb the embankment, where I could satisfy my sweet tooth with juicy flavor of the wild plums when they were in season.

I absolutely love this! Yes take the time and indulge. Life is short!

This is a very well written story about Joe. I enjoyed listening to every minute of it and he was in the strange man, but what really stands out to me is the fact that your parents were so kind to him and never really treated him badly. That shows me a lot about the character of the parents that raised you. Patricia .
