Love can bring sadness, if and when it's not respected and reciprocal. Sometimes, even when it is.
I am a romantic, I am told, but I don't see it myself. I guess you can choose to express love in your unique way, but I feel there are always things that must be there. Like kindness and unselfishness, for it to be really love, yet these things must prevail, as we are imperfect we don't always express it correctly.
Nice poem.

    Love is different for most people. I am a romantic too. Sometimes I write happy love poems and sometimes I write sad ones full of yearning and loss. I'm from Spain, poets tend to be dramatic. You are right, true love requires kindness, selfishness, and trust. Unfortunately, I never had that kind of love so it's easy to pull grief and yearning from my own life, though not biographical.... you know what I mean.

You always capture the feeling of longing and year yearning so well. I liked your refrain "I can write the saddest song tonight" and it grows sadder through poem.

    I know, I was readining Pablo Neruda poems, they are sad as well. He was an excellent poet.

    It was sad, I am going to write something light and funny next (*+*)
