I think your poem captures something of the otherworldly feel of the eclipse event, the way it kind of undermines our experience of the world. There's a sense of being caught up in something we can't control, something that overwhelms us in its shadow. estory

-Very nice image, Melissa, it is similar to what
we saw in NJ as the eclipse began.
-Your notes are appreciated.
-You wrote a good poem about it with
effective imagery and rhyme.
-A very good opening verse sets the scene.
-A good follow up verse with "twilight trance"
and showing what the expectations are.
-We had a good view of the sun being covered
until it was a slender arc, but we didn't get the
total eclipse. Years ago I remember that
happening, and it got so cold, it was very weird,
but an amazing phenomenon at the same time.
-One small thing: you didn't bold face your
font beginning with the last line of the first verse.
-A good job with your poem.

It's good to hear from you again. You hit the spot with this one, my friend. An eclipse of the sun is a wondrous phenomenon and one that doesn't happen very often at all.
Thanks for highlighting this great event in Virginia and other states across the nation. It brings us closer together and that is always a good thing.

I watched it on the BBC and it was amazing. How wonderful that you saw it first hand Melissa. A twilight trance indeed and a wonderful experience and it is all captured in your poem, love Dolly x x x

We were just on edge of the zone of totality here in Lincolnville, Maine. The weather in Maine was outstanding. Nice job with your poem, Melissa.

I remember the one in the UK in 1999, and Brian May on breakfast TV telling us not to look directly at the sun. Your poem brings different things in though. I had never considered that animals might be affected by it, or that the darkness might make the atmosphere feel slightly creepy. Thanks for a great poem.

"Experiencing an Eclipse" Yes, sometimes it's a once in a lifetime thing.
Good aabb rhyme scheme in the two quatrains.
"a creepy, crawly afternoon." Indeed, it can be a weird experience. Hope you enjoyed it, though. :-)

I'm glad you were able to see this phenomenon up close and personal. Here in Massachusetts we weren't in a direct parh, just partial. My cats slept through the whole thing. lol

We just had this pass our area today. A total eclipse is really quite the sight to behold. The world is breath taken for those few short minutes.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
