I'm not certain I understood this, though it was well-written. Could it have a double meaning, such as what man will become in the future after he destroys himself, or the birth of a worm or tiny insect first experiencing life?

I will say yes to both.

I see this as a riddle although clues abound that this is a sea creature who is destined to live its life underneath sand in hopes of reaching the ocean. Any reason behind the choice of names? Good luck in the contest. This is different and I hope it wins.

I wrote the first name before there was a story, and the second as I needed a second name. Neither is remarkable.

lol A great entry for the 100 Word flash Fiction contest. I feel like this is one of those stories that go on for eons and be just a ripple in time. Well done.

Humans who of course are at the top of the food chain, which means to me that we not only get the choice of the best food, we are often the first to dine. We rarely take notice of the life beneath us and the struggle these other life forms go through just to survive, only to be crushed and often devoured by us over a slice of toasted bread. Ironic is it not?

I would love to have had an author's note about Abotabo, just so that I could focus your flash on a character. I appreciate that Basil is a crab (barely visible in the pic) and this is perhaps an analogy about life and our search through darkness for the light of that oasis pool. And, if I've got that right, I actually think you've done a great job in a very limited word format. Well done, Bill, and good luck! Debbie

Life is about the journey, not the destination (I guess).

Oh my! Pour souls wandering the desert looking for food and water. A graphic slap in the face short story that we hope will end better than we fear. Excellent writing, my friend. Sending you my best today as always and my very best wishes for the contest.
