I love your heartfelt poem. I have three children and three grandchildren... they are the best thing in my life. Congratulations on the great grandchild! They are such a blessing.

Thank you Gypsy for the the congrats. Yes, life is hard and it's getting harder. I can't imagine how our grandchildren will be able to cope, survive and prosper with out faith. Prayer works miracles but, the timing is God's.
Many reviewers thought 'Cries of life' is a poem and graded it as such. However, it is not a poem, it is a song. Some of lyrics rhyme and some don't. All of the stanzas create a metaphor pointing to the fall of Eden and the path of humankind.
'Sadness hangs over a dark lagoon.' The dark lagoon is fallen Eden.
'And the river shines from a fickle moon.' The river is God given life but the light comes not from Him but from a fickle source. It is not glorifying but can appear so.
Give it another read, or better yet, listen to the song. The MP3 player is located on the upper left hand of the baby's photo.
I will pray for your grandchildren.
    All the best, Yard.

Hi Yardier,
This poem doesn't seem to give a good feeling for a good life for your grandchild. Maybe he/she can find her own way to get through the world
in a positive way.
Congratulations on your first grandchild.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a great weekend
Joan

You're welcome, Yard. Thank for the clarification. Isn't every song a poem set to music?
    Joan
reply by the author on 20-Mar-2024
High Joan. No, every song is not a poem but, every song, like poems, tell a story. A poem follows a required meter and rhyme, whereas a song is not required to have meter or rhyme. Songs have rhythm, melody and sometimes rhyme within certain stanzas.
    Hope this helps, Yard

What a beautiful baby and what a meaningful heartfelt, beautiful song!
Congratulations to the best "club" in the world. Grandchildren are the redemption of our souls. We see them and know there is love and purity and hope...and how blessed are we to bear witness to the miracle of
"The cries of life (that) echo down the hall!"

I wish I had a six...but I suspect you're already thanking your lucky stars and God -- so I will simply say I'm saving this to my bookcase so I can listen to you sing again!

Karenina! Thank you so much for the congrats and book mark. You are one of two reviewers who realized it was a song. LOL. Not gonna sell many records that way.
We will keep in touch. I have a few other lyrics to post but getting them within FS limited mp3 length is difficult. I may have to go rogue and post on You Tube.
Thanks again for your well wishes and book mark!
    Yard.

This is an interesting viewpoint on life. Can't decide if it's a pro or con type of message. With your photo you used, I first anticipated it would be a sweet poem about newborn babies. But for sure, after birth, there are no guarantees of the future outcome.

This poem is wonderful and it does a wonderful job of conveying the struggles ahead for a child in life. To me it also portrays how we as parents always hope we can help them no repeat our mistakes, but we can't.

Three of our grandchildren are old enough to make us great grandparents but haven't done so yet. I actually look forward to that day. Being a grandparent has been wonderful. I'm sure being a great grandparent will be even better. Thank you for sharing this poem with us. I enjoyed reading.

Wow, I mean Wow! Life right is held in such low regard; the abotion clock ticks away as I write this and by the time I'm finished, more preborn babies will lose their chance to live. Yep, it never stops this clock. Never. Then if the child survives there's so much going on in the world that's against them. Our society no longer favors children and only stands up for them if it's gets them elected or stuffs money in their pockets. What ever happened to personal responsibility? What happened to truth? I've never seen so such s----! Even on here! I mean, really. Do some of these folks actually believe what they're trying to sell? I dunno, Yardier. You and I were brought up in different times. Your poem is spot on. Thanks so much for sharing. Aching for a six today!
Blessing to you all.
Sal :))

I LOVE these kinds of poems that have an "inner" rhyme on each line [Hey! Like what I did there, Yardier? It was an unintentional emulation, but that made it extra fine...Okay; I'll stop now..]

I also loved the depth of the message here and smokey vibe throughout as we felt your tussle with the new versus the established. Really great job.

Did you mean to put the apostrophe BEFORE the missing letter of the word "old," though? The first time you did it, I was thinking it was a typo, but then you did it a second time, and I wondered if it WASN'T supposed to be a condensation of the word "old." But, by the same token, I couldn't think of any other word that would fit. So then I didn't understand why you would put the apostrophe where you did since it's replacing the 'd' rather than the first letter. [I went through the entire alphabet before I came to this conclusion on the matter; I was very thorough. Thanks for that early morning consternation there, Yardier..]

Finally, CONGRATULATIONS on your newest family member. Lifelong joys to you and your wife.

Good afternoon, Rachelle. I hope the consternation has faded by now. I very much appreciate your early morning review; must have been a great cup of coffee. In fact, you were the first person I thought of when I posted the song/poem. I wrote it as a song that just happened to rhyme a bit. We balladeers tend to do that. I thought for sure you would have noticed the MP3 attached to the posting. No one else has either. Perhaps it isn't worth their comment. You, on the other hand, a journey-person musical instructor? Granted the song has a simple chord arraignment yours truly sings without going to far off key. I think the poem comes alive with voice and music. Give it listen and let me know what you think.
Oh, yes, I had a brain fade with 'ol. Thanks for pointing it out. I
appreciate your thoroughness and made the change.

Thoroughly yours, Yard the bard. (;-0

    Hi again!
The truth is, I didn't even see the MP3 until you pointed it out. Sorry about that.
It was cool - a hybrid of Woody Guthrie and Leo Redbone.
reply by the author on 16-Mar-2024
Wonderful! Thank you for taking the extra time Rachelle. You've put me in some tall cotton with Guthrie and Redbone. One other reviewer likened it to Johnny Cash. Now, if I can get a comparison to RY Cooder, I really would be living on Strait Street.
    Thanks again, enjoy your weekend.

Such a very weird thing is it not? Life. So very long at times, yet very short indeed.

What a wonderfully contemplative piece. You still have words to write.

Congrats on the new life in your family
