I love tht song. And, I just finished writing to another FS writer about personal experiences w3ith individuals who ended lives by suicide. Such a tragedy, as God is able to forgive anyone who truly trust in Him. If He did it for me, He can do it for anyone.

A good storyteller, you give us the details of place, time and feelings. We sense your sadness and your caution, as you prepare your thoughts for necessary action to care for your friend drowning his sorrows in booze. Your understanding and compassion shine through. Nicely told.

New paragraph beginning with "It never failed to strike me as odd"

"four inches his bigger" - take "his" out

It's not clear if you're talking about Tom or Jason when you begin talking football; I assume it's football although you don't name the sport.

camaraderie

Although I like single spacing on FS posts, there really needs to be space between paragraphs.

Why is he apologizing to Amanda? If he's offering condolences, wouldn't he do that at the funeral? Did I miss something. "The truth" is that there is a God?

Sorry about all the critiques. I feel like you pounded it out without an edit?

This reads like non-fiction and I had to check the top to make sure. Good dialogue and good flow, but it does need to be tidied up a bit:-)

Thanks, Wayne.

Thank you! Yes, I had a thought and flew with it.
Tom wants to apologize for steering Jason away from the 'path of righteousness'. I reverted back to my habit of brevity.

Thank you for "briefly" clearing that up for me:-)

Any housesitting in interesting places lately?

Montrose, CO and Ivins, UT this summer. Carlsbad, NM canceled or we'd be heading there soon. We would have been to many, but we're getting a little bit picky about the number of animals we're willing to tend. (smiley face here)

The writing makes you feel like you're there with them. As if you are an old friend of theirs as well and grew up with them from high school. You can feel the sadness of losing an old friend, making it even more depressing that he took his own life.

    Thank you so very much.
Yes, fiction. Except for the important parts: 'He knows now.' And 'There are no dead unbelievers.'

This story, Laying a Friend to Rest, captures a likely conversation in such an instance. One of three friends has pulled off a suicide and "benefitted" his survivors. The two friends who remain accept the truth about the deceased with mixed emotions; one with a breakdown in social awareness, and one with a discipline to maintain sobriety to honor the living.

Everyone deals with a loss in their own way. The death of Jason was difficult enough for Tom and Junior, but Tom was worried about Jason and God. I think he worried whether he made it there or not, but prayed that he had.
