I can relate so much to your fear of losing mobility. I too amble in a wheelchair and have great difficulty leaving the apartment without a caregiver to accompany me. Whether it is to the grocery store or the pharmacy I know it is hard to find someone to drive me and help me transfer from vehicle to my wheelchair and back again. I have many bone anomalies and arthritis very badly in both knees and my spinal column up and down to my neck where now I must consider wearing an airport collar to keep my head from drooping down as I fall asleep while awake for some reason.
Thanks for sharing your fears and attributes as well with us. It helps me feel less alone with my mobility issues.
Jesse

Jesse. You are not alone on this journey. Your faith keeps you going. Able bodies have no idea how hard it is for us to do the most simple things. The arthritis is killing my hands and knees. I have two herniated discs 3 + 5 in my spine. Wear that collar because you could fall asleep and suffocate. Love, Kay xx

This is so beautifully written, Kay, and, yet, I have nothing more to give. It's a truly inspiring write and so relatable ( I have a disability myself that leaves me virtually housebound). Although I was stunned by your story all the way through, my favourite paragraph began "I have reached...." I know from all your many and varied posts how active your 'grey matter' remains, particularly when it comes to creatures and nature. It's a wonderful investment and energy in the world around you which, I believe, will keep you strong through all those darker moments. Well done and good luck ( a winner in my books!) Take care Debbie x

Debbie, I didn't know you were ably disabled. Some weeks I don't see anyone between carers twice a week. Benny had to go the the Vet. He had a massive abscess on his tummy. He is a happy chappy and gives me a reason to get up like, "Hey mum is it walkies yet?" 5 a.m. It takes me ages to suit up for our walk. I trained him to my power chair. Do you have any animals? The Vet cost $230! Love, Kay xx

You're an amazing woman, K! And I'm glad that you overcame mobility issues so young and you were able to do so much - like setting up that ranch for horses. You show us we can do all things through the Lord's help. Best wishes in the contest!

"We can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us." He got me through 13 weekly operations with the loss of my left leg. I came out of the hospital a different person. Bless you, my friend. Love, Kay xx

Oh my goodness! 13 weekly operations sound horrible! I'm so glad you embrace the new person you are in Christ. 💖💖

Yes, the Drs were trying to rebuild the leg, a two-year carry-on until they couldn't because there was 5 cm of bone missing in the lower leg. I told them to take it off because they were only going to do cosmetic surgery, a boot, a caliper, and on crutches for life! I was hit in July and walked in October in a temporary leg. Over 40 years I have had 30 new legs. It is likened to a teeth reline and then a new set. :-(

This is a post for the contest. Being the upbeat person you are, you have made it easy for people who know you to really care about you. Writing, painting and talking to friends is a great way to spend you days without getting depressed. Of course, we dread losing more of our ability to do thing we enjoy, but some older people don't have anything they enjoy. I like your attitude.

Hi Beth, Thanks for reading my story. I believe we can overcome this with the help of our faith and a positive attitude because there is always someone who is worse off and needs our listening ear. K xx

This is very well written for the contest, and I wish you the very best in the contest I didn't know that you were disabled from my serious auto accident. I know we each have things that we fear. The thing I fear the most is completely losing my eyesight. At this point I still have some site and I am able to do things that are Available for me by using my iPad. I can stay up to date with the fan story program. I can no longer do some of the things that I used to do I can no longer paint I can no longer knit, both of which I have always loved to do. The problem is that with my eyesight being such as it is, I do not have good enough. Focus to even focus on things that I used to do. Patricia .

Can you dictate your work and have an ablebod write it for you? You can't knit by feel? Yes, Pat as we grow older, many things drop away and so we have to find things to replace them. Do you like music? Love, Kay xx

Yes, I can speak my words into my iPad and it will write them out exactly as I am speaking them. This is how I am doing this right now.

Your are a shining example for us all, my friend. We do not have to give in to the darkness when it has appeared in our lives. This sentence really stands out for me: Writing, painting, and helping folks online fill the loneliness.

I am sure FanStory has become the lifeline for many members. We really know little about the home life of a lot of them, we do know that writing prose and poetry is a wonderful way to spend our time and fulfill an internal need. Thank you for posting this, Kay. I am sure it will uplift many readers through the encouragement of knowing you are a talented writer and have a strong and that is a shining example for us all. XO Lily

Hello Lily, Thanks so much for reading. I appreciate your thoughts. Many people write to me because they are battling disabilities. Or they are newbies in the poetry dept. Bless you, K xx

lol I should do a better job of proofreading! This is supposed to say -- have a strong determination.
I will be 80 soon and I think it is catching up to me, but I am still trying to out distance it as much as I can. :0)
