The opening scene here is a little jarring, with Johnno's boys paying Ayesha and her party pal an abrupt visit. The chapter really got going when Ayesha gets that news report of the arm washing up on the beach. And through the initials on the wedding ring, she is certain it is Bruno. I like the subltety of the reveal, and the shadow it throws on the story. And then she finally finds out what Bruno's estate is worth and the sum seems to make her giddy. Not sure if even Aeysha would be that impetuous to cast the broker's advice aside and sell it all and entail that huge tax burden. But we can see her casting an eye at the elephant sanctuary and Bapit in this calculation. She seems kind of lurching from one sudden move to another. But the suspense is building, Johnno is still lurking, and lots can unfold in lots of different directions from here. estory

Thanks, estory. I appreciate your comments about Ayesha. She's not showing much common sense at the moment. She may need help if there's anyone around who she trusts. Best wishes, Tony.

Another exciting chapter. I like the pace you have to this story. There is no wasted words. Everything leads to something else. It's controlled but not predictable. That would be scary for two women having drinks to be accosted by strong arms sending a message. Well done. Gretchen

Well written.
Sell the lot???? What a terrible decision! And not just the tax, though that is significant. I guess that's why so many newly rich lottery winners so quickly file bankruptcy.
Best wishes.

Thanks, Wayne. She'd do better to listen to some advice but she's not sure who to trust. As you say, not a great decision.

Will they be able to fingerprint the arm? That could complicate things. Of course, we all know what happened to Bruno. And it seems Johnno isn't going to let go of the money that easily. Seems Ayesha needs to be careful.

I doubt there'd more than bones and sinews - possibly enough for a DNA test but not for fingerprints.

I suspect it is better if Ayesha moves the money to her own account. If Bruno should be alive, minus one arm, he could claim the money himself but not from an account with only her name on it. Maybe she is smarter than she is given credit for.

The chances of Bruno being alive are zero after being mauled by two bull sharks. I'm going to have to rewrite this chapter anyway because jointly held shares automatically go to the surviving partner. All that is necessary is to complete transfer paperwork for the share registry, so there's no need for her to sell anything. I didn't do my research well enough!

She is not being smart at all. She needs all new lawyers and accountants. She can not afford to be impulsive now. She must think beyond this minute.
She should get a check from them right now to start her off. Say $100,000.00. A drop in the bucket.:-)

I need to rewrite this chapter. There's a much simpler solution for her that the share broker would have told her about.

    You are an accountant too?
I thought there must be simple ways to do that. :-)

    Me? An accountant! No way.

Wow! What a chapter. I did wonder if any of Bruno was gonna turn up, somewhere. You are doing really well with this. Keep up the good work and no spags.

Oh, I didn't know the person handling the sale of the shares got a percentage. You really did your research about the financial jargon and legal reasons for what is required. I'm wondering if Ayesha really needs the full amount but since the police investigations about her twice deceased husband's drug business could result in removing all her assets, perhaps it is wise on her part as she hopes to start her own elephant sanctuary - well, at least for one elephant.

Yes, generally Sydney brokers charge 1.75% on a large transaction, so the brokerage fee would have been close to half a million dollars. Ayesha is probably wise to move her assets to an account that Johnno can't touch. She can always re-buy shares in her own name if she needs to. I'm having to do quite a bit of research! Thanks for your comments. All the best, Tony.

Im happy, Ayesha, is taking charge of her money. It seems like financial advisers don't want her to withdraw her money. I hope all goes well.

Another intriguing chapter with awesome imagery....

"peals of laughter"

"Horizontal bars of sunlight fell across the table"

"clear blue skies and a diamond sparkle on the harbour water."

Ayesha is one tough lady. I do hope she's fully aware of what she's doing. Her late husband's arm just showed up and his people aren't going to be happy about what she's doing. Who's going to protect her??

Next morning, when Ayesha woke up, (The following morning)

She sat down and adjusted the seam of her skirt. (you can omit 'down' it's understood)

Thanks for your review, Barbara. I'm interested in your differentiation between 'next' and 'the following'. I've often seen both used interchangeably in books, but only rarely 'the next', unless in a phrase like 'on the next occasion'. I note you have published several books. Is this something that editors have picked up on?
reply by barbara.wilkey on 27-Feb-2024
I am just going by what my editors have told me. It seems to have to deal with the definition of the words.
