Now that was a good idea, but where could Ayesha take the poor elephant?
Ayesha seems to be getting everything wrong at the moment, what works in Australia, doesn't work at all in Thailand. Now she has embarrased Bapit, and his friend, and that's not good. Lots still going on, and I'm really looking forward to the next chapter. Well done, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Yes, there would be a few hurdles to overcome if she were to take up Bapit's suggestion, and the way things are at the moment, I can't see Chanarong giving her the time of day. That may not stop her from trying though!

Nice chapter. Good plot movement.
with the flat of her hand. - Is that her palm, or the back of her hand. I'm having trouble seeing it.
Nice thought, buying Abhamaru.

Thanks, Wayne. I appreciate your review and continued support.
'The flat of the hand', is the palm side, with the fingers straight. It's a common expression in British English. I guess I could have said she slapped him.

Bapit has a lot of pride and different mores, which confuse Ayesha. He has, however, proposed something she is going to want to do. But what will she do with the elephant once she owns it? This is such an original story set in a delightfully exotic setting.

Thanks, Carol. The ending is beginning to take shape now, in my mind anyway! I appreciate your continued interest. All good wishes, Tony.

Hello Tony,
Another excellent addition to the book with very good insight into the emotional difficulties Bapit faces. The dialogue and interaction between
Ayesha and Bapit is well done.

I like the little section about the Bapit emulating Rahu to jump into the sky
to swallow the sun and moon.

Perhaps Ayesha should buy the entire trekking lodge, fire Chanin, and gradually let Bapit grow into the role of manager and mahout.

Well done.
Looking forward to the next chapter.
Best wishes.
Robert

Well, I'll be jiggered! You've second guessed the whole of the rest of the book! Glad you enjoyed this chapter with its interactions between the two of them. As always, I appreciate the sixth star. Best wishes, Tony.

I was wondering how he would take to her gift of the prosthetic. Pride is pride and sometimes makes no sense. I hope she adopts the Elephant. It's upsetting to think about an animal being mistreated this way. Great chapter. Gretchen

Thanks, Gretchen. Fortunately, this is a work of fiction. I think elephants are better treated these days. Thanks for your continued support. All good wishes, Tony.

That's it! Of course, Ayesha should buy Abhamaru. She should apologize to Chanarong for her rudeness and then offer a good price. That would help heal Bapit, help the lodge owner with his financial difficulties, and get Abhamaru away from that awful Chanin!
Great realism with the cultural issues and the male ego issues.
Wendy suggested that I read The Elephant Whisperer so this is very good to read about the care of these people for the elephant.

The Elephant Whisperer. I must remember that. As you've predicted, we may be on the home straight now. All the best, Tony.

Well, quarrel in paradise, and that old hag love that things can conquer all.... let's see how is going to cure the cultural difference. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the next chapter.

Thanks, Iza. These two still have some sorting out to do if I'm to contrive a happy ending! All the best, Tony.

Thank you for sharing this addition with us. Ayesha has much to learn, but she is intelligent, and I am sure she will grow. Bapit needs to learn to accept help. I'm sure Ayesha will be able to help him in that area. I hope Abhamaru gets a new home. Great write.

Thanks, Barbara. These two still have some sorting out to do if I'm to contrive a happy ending! And, of course, I can hardly leave poor Abhamaru in the lurch! All the best, Tony.

This was a stronger chapter. I liked the tension in the dialogue, and we really see Bapit pushing back against Ayesha's desire to help him with money. The scenes of him struggling with his crutches underscores his need of help, but his pride comes glaring through his words as he pushes back against her and defines his own space. She seems carefree as she wheels around the wheelchair and almost loses control of it. We almost get a glimpse there of her desperate desire to cheer him up and give him some spirit. The seething emotions between the characters and the complicated relationships leap off the page here. estory

I don't know whether you are writing this from perception of a relationship between a Thai boy and an Australian girl who's grown up with the experience of entitlement like most of us have Tony. Or from a cultural exchange, either way it's great, blessings Roy

Thanks for your comments, Roy. There is certainly a cultural mismatch here and I'm having to think carefully about how I'm going to resolve that or even if I should.
