Does one fill the outline of an introvert? 'Far from the maddening crowd' I suspect that might be your happy place. Does that 'monkey mind' work upright or does it require bare knuckles to the ground? Interesting read.

Kaiku, both and...thank you!
Comment from Brenda Strauser
I enjoyed this poem. The picture represents solitude well. We all need solitude time. We live in such a busy time, that solitude is good. Well written

Thank you.
Comment from June Sargent
To be consumed by peace, far from the maddening crowd, at one with all that has ever been or will be - I can't ask for more. Thanks for letting me tag along. A beautiful entry for the contest.

June, thank you and you are always welcome.
Comment from Julie Helms
This is a nice entry for the contest. I like how you contrast the cacophony of nature with the noise of the maddening crowd, one being peaceful and the other stressful. I also particularly like your phrase, "monkey mind". It says it all! Really enjoyed this, thanks for sharing! Julie.

Thank you for your supportive words.
Comment from Wendy G
Beautifully written - you have captured the peace and serenity of solitude within nature very well. Sights, sounds, emotions, and the eternal beauty (past, present and future) are all expressed skilfully. A strong contender - best wishes.

Comment from Janet Foor
Beautiful commentary on solitude in your free verse poem. You took the reader on a journey with you into a quiet world of solitude. I loved the monkey mind line. I often have to deal with that dilemma.
Well done
Blessings

This is a beautifully written poem for solitude. Love these lines in silence, I rest reposed against a mighty oak.
Far from the maddening crowd that so often
consumes any hope of silence good luck in the contest.

Hello Jim. It's so nice to read your work again and hear your deep voice(as I remember it from classes) read it in my head. It is a wonderful poem that flows with peace and serenity. Well done, my friend.

I don't usually care for free verse, but the accompanying picture drew me in, and the words really do remind me of how I feel when I'm in a Pacific Northwest forest (namely my backyard).
