A suspense thriller. Wonder what Ayesha will do when she finds out her abusive husband is not really dead.
"Dark deeds require the cover of night" Wonderful line, says so much, the obvious and the not so obvious.
Love that last paragraph. 'Skeleton staff' made me laugh. I spent many a night shift working intensive care and it was so nice not to be tripping over med students, residents, attendings, and ancillary staff. One of the few perks of working the dark hours.

I wasn't expecting Ayesha to want to see Bapit again, after what happened between them, but I hope she does manage to see him. I could feel the malevolence in your final paragraph, which I thought was done really well. Another excellent chapter, I really enjoyed it.

I just popped back onto the site, and see that you still around, and as witty and prolific as ever. Coming into this story quit late, but I see, as always you a master of dialog, have a penchant for great cuisine, and develop characters as well as surroundings very well. Enjoyed it very much.

Ayesha must feel safe from Bruno's abuse, but will he really let her go? Lots of questions, which is a great way to keep a reader reading.

There certainly are a few questions still hanging unanswered. However, I think we can safely assume the poor makeup artist has had his chips. (He had already engineered the more difficult task of providing a body to go with it. He knew that no one of significance was going to miss the make-up artist. Like others before him, he would have simply disappeared. Another unsolved crime.)
If Ayesha knew that Bruno was still at large, she'd be quaking in her boots. I'm pretty sure of that!

For a little while Ayesha just gets to relax and enjoy widowhood.

I think your background notes are absolutely first-class, reminding the reader about all that has occurred in this quite complex story which has got me hooked. I love all the descriptive detail and imagery (Ayesha's vivid thoughts as she imagines Bapit's accident and the cunning and corrupt plan to get Bruno out of the country. Am I correct in thinking that the makeup artist's body will replace Bruno's for cremation? If so, it might need to be added to your notes? But I apologise if I'm wrong here. Your setting fills in the picture perfectly as the plot moves along at a good pace. I'm encouraged to learn Ayesha won't be charged with murder, at least not yet.
And the appearance of a reconciliation between Ayesha and Bapit softens the soil for a budding relationship to grow.

Nicely done. I liked how you orchestrated all these moving parts, the scheming Suttikil bribing the magistrate, the new twist of Bapit getting hit by a car (maybe an assassination attempt?) and Ayesha scrambling to find out how he is and probably arousing suspicion in the police chief over that. Dialogue is crisp and full of the necessary tension, and I really liked how you penned in those writhing green dragons with jaws agape in the temple and equating it with the corrupt twisting life of Suttikil. This is really coming along nicely. estory
