Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I live with two cats and a dog. I do love my cats, but I am a dog person. I agree dogs are the way to go. Cats, in opinion are more difficult to handle when it comes to giving medicine an taking on trips. Good luck with the contest.

Thank you. I appreciate your input on the dog cat thing. I think each species is smarter than the other is some ways. Cats are harder to handle when it comes to invading their personnel space (like takeing medicine). Cats hate change, too, while a dog doesn't care as long as its human is there.

It is amazing how animals will adapt to their surroundings and they make friends and get along when they have to. I enjoyed this story about friendship and keeping the peace as cats and dogs have opposite personalities and perhaps opposites attract and there is mutual respect for one another. We can learn a lot from our pet animals, a fine post, love Dolly

Thank you. If a new dog comes into my home,I insist they get along with the cats. Cats an dogs can learn to live together even if they didn't before. It just takes firm discipline.

This was quite delightful. You did not dip your hat in the author's notes to the one who wrote the original story. This is required, you have time to fix it.

Thank you. No, this is the first sequel contest where you are asked to write a sequel to one of your own stories that won a contest in the past. It had to be over six months ago. The rules say to not reveal which one of my stories I'm writing the sequel for. I haven't entered the second sequel contest yet. Putting two sequel stories so close together has caused some confusion for the reviewers. You're not the first one who has mentioned this. I hope this helps.

I think telling someone who we may not even know, to write a sequel to our copyrighted work is illegal isn't it? Karen
reply by the author on 06-Nov-2023
I don't know if it is legal or not. I doubt that I will enter that sequel contest. I'm not sure I want someone writing a sequel to one of my stories. I probably wouldn't say anything, but I might not like it.

I do not want anyone to attempt to add to my work without my consent. It's plagarism at the very least.
This worries me. I am under no delusion that my stuff here is the Nobel standard or beyond, but it is mine, and came from my blood and guts such as it is. I am going to go look at the rules here aand see if there is something there. Karen

I agree with you. This is one contest they should not have allowed. I can see writing a sequel for my own story, as I have done with Says Who, but I won't write a sequel to another author's work. I think it is wrong. Let me know what you find out.

So, do you think writing a sequel to another author's work is okay? I still don't like the idea of it.

I always said that I want to be reincarnated as a dog living in my house, spoiled!

I have three dogs, treat them as if they were our children and love them till the end of time.

I loved your post! It's funny and told so by that we readers can visualize it, easily.

Thank you for posting.

Cheers to the pups.

John

Thank you for taking the time to read and review. I love dogs and cats equally, and I think each is smarter is some areas than the other. I'm glad you enjoyed the story.

This is adorable. I love the mental image of the cat trying to herd the family cows.

This narrator-dog is very astute. Cats definitely are vengeful...and they lack appreciation. Dogs are loyal for life and very, very quick in the area of forgiveness (sometimes, in the wrong hands, to their detriment.)

Cute post, and I hope it fares well for you at the polls.

Thank you, and Pup thanks you too. I live with the six cats mentioned in the story. I have experienced their little acts of revenge. I swear Skeezix uses the live mouse in the house to get even if I forget to give him his morning treat.

    Bad, Skeezix!! Bad, bad Skeezix!!

Very well written.
I'm at a loss. It's a sequel to something, but if you let on to what it sequel's, then you give away your authorship and it would no longer be 'blind'. Hmmm. But we, I anyway, wouldn't even know that it's a sequel or not. Hmmm.
Best wishes.

Thank you. Yeah, it is kind of an odd writing prompt. Also, a lot of the reviewers are confusing it with the second sequel promt, which is totally different. They keep mentioning that I'm supposed to give a salute to the author whose story I'm writing the sequel for. I haven't entered that contest, and I'm not decided if I will or not.

    Ahhhh. Yes, I was confused.

I liked this very much. You seem to have really nailed the difference between dogs and cats and can appreciate each one for what they are. I think I would have to agree that dogs are smarter than cats as you pointed out with your excellent examples.

Your appreciation for both pets shines through the story. It was a delightful read. - Jim

Thank you. I love cats and dogs equally. I think each species is smarter than the other in some areas. Cats are very clever, but they are lazy animals and sometimes play dumb to avoid doing anything they don't want to do.

Aw, isn't that just too cute, and I couldn't agree with Pup more. I can just hear my dog, Tasha, saying the exact same words about my cat. Well, our cat. It is so true.
There's something about this story and the voice I seem to recognise, but for my life, I can't put my finger on it. The best of luck. It's a lovely peace of writing. Ulla:)))

Thank you. We had to pick one of our stories from over six months ago that had won a contest. I read so many stories it would be hard for me to remember one I read that long ago. It was fun to pick one of my winning stories and write a sequel for it.
reply by Ulla on 05-Nov-2023
I am contemplating doing the same thing. It sounds fun. You wrote a great story.:)))

Such a fun read! I am an animal lover and found this very believable! I know our dogs are incredibly intelligent and can see them writing just this story. I lean towards digs but have had some great kitties in my life as well. People own doggies but cats own people! Lol.... At least they have that attitude! Lol.
Thanks for sharing this fun story with us.

Thank you. I agree with you on the point that cats own people. If they decide they don't like someone, no power on earth will convince other otherwise, while Pup would be heartbroken if she lost me for some reason.

This is great. it sas has so many redeeming aspects. I'm sure this could open a good discussion. I enjoyed the specific contrasts you make. Your humor is delightful. Having it told through a dog's point of view makes it even more engaging. Well done.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the writing. I love to write stories from the animals point of view.

    You do it so genuinely.
You may not know I have an autobiographical allegory series. I bet you would do well writing in the point of view. Mine is about Bea a wee bear & her adventures. Bea is me. In it my first chapter is about me & my animals. If you want t0 peek at it in my portfolio. No review necessary...just enjoy. It might inspire you.
