This was one of my favorite Halloween poems. It has it all, with many wonderfully clever lines. One of my favorites is It "growls a purr, to chill and stir Impending doom in smooth black fur." Overall wonderful imagery. Just scary enough, for both little and big kids alike. Best of luck.

You conjured up all the spooky Halloween images and put them together in a creative, smooth flowing rhyme to scare all who read your poem. You begin with the fade of light, and end with the morning sun. In between, all sorts of horrors have taken place. Well done. Best wishes in the contest.

I like the upbeat pace that took me from beginning to end. The creatures associated with the night have all come out to play. You paint a dark and creepy image in the reader's mind.

A great Halloween Poem! The poem is filled with thoughts and excellent
rhyming for Halloween. I pondered on these words and thought about
how the author's imagination was filled with scary thoughts! The poem
flows and connects well. The artwork is awesome and compliments this
poem well. Happy Halloween!....Maria

I loved this! It read like a published piece of Children's poetry, Jess!
It was so much fun to read, and the visuals were spot-on for a mom or dad to read to their wee ones before they hit the sheets!
It's a creepy, spooky poem for Halloween night.
You have a flawless pattern in your poetry! So good! Best, JohnC

Awesome job Jessica with great touches of internal rhymes! Flawless tetrameter that flows beautifully. I particularly love the last stanza. "Your fears their fun..."
You've convinced me! I'm not going out trick or treating! LOL!
This is great contender for the contest so good luck.

This poem, The Dark Night, presented with seven AABB-rhymed quatrains, is the total package of thrilling scenes and spooky goings-on. Fun to read in this scary season.

I really enjoyed this Halloween poem. You hinted at the dark side yet didn't carry it too far. The spooky suggestions just added to the fun of the evening. Beware the shadows. Happy Halloween! Gretchen

Hi Jessica, this reminded me of my husband (passed)
first date...he took me to a cemetery...of course the first
thing that came to mind was...this was our last date...
but it turned out to be a great night...we went and saw
where Al Capone was buried...and other interesting plots
there...he was a railroad engineer...so not what I expected...LOL...
I love your description of the perfect Halloween night...and a
first date never forgotten...
love your poem my sweet friend...picture perrrrfect...
very well written...love you...Linda xxoo
