You are right. No one ever knows what might come from you. I can't imagine anyone being so jovial over having his head chopped off. It is hard to believe that could still be a manner of execution even today amoug the terrorist groups. This is good entry for the Day of Woe contest.

Day of woe needs attendees. Drop a line or two.

Written with an extreme sense of the surroundings. One can feel being within medieval times.
You did fine in setting the stage and taking us through to the end.
Great line -
A straw-strewn basket lies beneath my crown. Its purpose to mute the thump heard where my head comes to rest.
Cheers,
John

I am not Sam but remain one of a kind. Funny, when we think with eight billion people there is no other me. Thank you.

Well that was a dark offering! Certainly meets the requirements for "A Tale of Woe", and I wish you well for the contest. Your words are vivid yet old-fashioned, as it would be for those times. Pity he didn't get to see his child first!

That could be true, but he wasn't royalty, just a traveling minstrel.

That's the gorgeous picture with a well written story. I love the second paragraph. You've got exquisite word choices in there! Every time I read something of yours, I am struck by the talent of it! It speaks to me of medieval times. Of course with the queen and getting the headed might be a good clue.
I very much enjoyed this. Read the fluidic sentences you write with excellent word choices.
Having said that I see no issues with grammar punctuation sentence structure subject matter at all. Great work!

Wow! So very woe...ful. Ha! Okay, I enjoyed this, finding myself wondering where you were going.
Small tiny catch:
Did the royals charged admission?
(Charge)
Good stuff. You are fun, my friend

Aah. Yes, indeed void the "d" from charge. Thanks for the life ring!
