All I can say is "I'm going to miss your posts". They are always thought provoking, well-presented and an opportunity to not only review my own opinions, but open my mind to others. Well done and well said in this post. Fanstory will be made less by your absence. I wish you would reconsider or at least drop in every so often! ann

I haven't decided yet if it will be a permanent break or not. Last time I got sick of it, I was gone for a year. Some of my other friends have taken similar "sabbaticals". Some have stayed away. Thanks, Ann :)

Oh what an enjoyable sing-song read to awaken my senses! Love it! It's jaunty rhythm is superb and your sentiments are fun, satirical and resonant. Someone once said, I think in one of your reviews, that this is "a writing site, not a church." Maybe that says it all! Good luck, Craig! You'll definitely be sadly missed. Debbie

Hi Craig
Do I detect a little cynical intent in this fun piece??
Well written and rhymed and when sung to the Vegemite tune all fits in nicely
Now being an Aussie Raised on Vegemite yum yum and still always have a jar in the pantry for a breaky treat. I feel your Happy Club needs a big spoonful of Happy Little Vegemite
Cheers Chris

Did you detect someone might not be a happy little Vegemite, Chrissy? Thanks heaps. If you run out, give us a tinkle, we never do :)

Knowing the tune of the vegemite ad, I basically sang my way through it. Although this heavily satirical piece made me smile initially, because I thought it was both witty and clever, yet the words are sad and the context also. It is disappointing if a writing site should be this way. Well done, but I am sorry it is so.

Nobody's more disappointed than I, Wendy. There are so many wonderful people on this site, many of whom hold views different to mine, but are willing to allow others a voice. Many, including a few that surprised me, said they felt similarly in their comments.

It's a shame that those on the committee are among the hard-liners who will countenance no opinion other than their own, and the site management doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to admit that suits its purpose just fine. If they'd just say "It is what it is, and you can like it or leave it", I'd have a lot more respect for them.

Anyway, enough whining. Take care, until we cross paths again. Hopefully, we will. Keep up those excellently researched stories, and good luck with your other endeavours!

    Craig

This is a funny song based, I guess, on a Vegemite jingle. You seem to be leaving with this final ditty as an opinion piece on the perceived "in your faith" culture at Fanstory. I think you need to cool off and come back later with more to share.

What's needed is for the site to have the gumption to let people know where they stand. If they're not going to apologise for their bias, or change it, then have the guts to defend it.

    Thanks for seeing the humour.

A great poem and a fine set of rules! I like the pictures you chose the backdrop and the text It's a fine presentation.
"Will always trump your pointless facts" perfect!
I like this. I think you put together a fine package.
I see, no issues with spelling grammar, sentence structure aesthetics or subject matter. It's a great submission I quite enjoy it I hope you have a great evening!

Thanks, Lea. Mere facts should never be allowed to spoil a good fairy tale. We all need more of those. Imagine if we were to take life at face value! Cheers, Craig

A little Monty Python so late at night? Well why not? Any time is a good time for some satire, but what should I do if I happen to be crabby, peeved or grumpy? Put on a happy face, that's what!

I must admit I had never eaten vegemite but if your song is the high level fare coming from the treat perhaps I shall give it a try.

As always an entertaining read from your quarter and written in perfect metre and rhyme. :)

Thanks for sharing.

Gloria

An entire nation will tell you Vegemite is the nectar of the gods, Gloria. Any one of them who doesn't will be cast out faster than a heathen in a FanStory contest.

A word of warning. If you do decide to sample this delight that looks like boot polish and tastes a bit like semi-fluid beef jerky (though it's 100% vegan), start with the *thinnest* of spreadings. I'm told it's an acquired taste, though my memory doesn't stretch back that far.

    Thanks for reviewing :)

Hi Craig! There's lots of ways to keep happy but it never helps to pretend to be disingenuous. I hope you keep up your ukulele playing and keep up with the tai chi! I've learned the "first paragraph" so have a ways to go before the twirling and kicking forms.

I'm not really sure what "pretending to be disingenuous" means, Helen, how one would go about it, or its relevance to this poem, but I'm sure there's a point there! I'll keep up uke until I can't hold it any more. As for Tai Chi, they've cut back weekly lessons at the local gym from 3 times a week to one, so I must get myself organised to do a bit at home. Keep well :)

Does the instructor allow you to video? We watch and review our "tam pai" tai chi to practice at home.

I'm not sure if they would let us video. I swim, on average, 2-3 km every day, which is quite meditative as well as being reasonable exercise. I think there are some decent instructional Tai Chi videos online, but I'm not sure what "brand" of Tai Chi is taught at our gym. It's fairly basic stuff. I recognise some of the moves from videos online, but haven't pinned it down yet.

The most popular is the Yang but we haven't learned that yet. I'm really impressed that you swim that distance every day! In a pool or in the ocean? That's great either way. Swimming is commitment because you have to prepare and then shower afterwards etc.

I swim in the pool, in the same complex that runs the Tai Chi, as I live about 250km from the ocean. Also, I have an agreement with the many varieties of sharks off Sydney beaches. I don't frolic in their back yard if they stay away from mine! :)
reply by lyenochka on 12-Oct-2023
Lol! Smart move! Despite all the statistics people quote about not being bit by sharks, I think in Australia, you have a higher percentage of dangerous creatures there!
