Since I have a number of food allergies, I have a list of foods and spices I do not eat, with good reason. I enjoyed the story of cutting off the end of the ham. Yes, sometimes we do things exactly the way our parents did them. Thanks for the humorous post. Blessings. Carol

If you are one of the people who have experienced this social humiliation. [... one of the people who HAS experienced. It agrees with "one" not "people".]

But if it worked...the worldwide demand and price of eggs would be much higher. [Funn-neeeee]

The grandmother said, "It wouldn't fit in the pan." [That's funny ... but your preacher friend probably heard it from the Salesman's Salesman, Zig Ziegler. (though I suppose Zig could have heard it from your preacher)]

But the fact people sometimes have a hard time telling the difference and the mistake might kill a person convinced me never to eat mushrooms. [Now that is the reason I check mushrooms very closely before eating them. Won't eat them fresh-picked, though I do trust supermarkets.]

This was a fun read, Terry! It might do well in some pay-for-stories sites.

LOL, thank you for the six stars. I do know the pan story has been around for a long time. I heard it over 50 years ago. And it?s still funny. I was at a little get together earlier, and I told them about my friend Jay?s new trash can! Terry

I think we do get used to the food we grow up with and it is hard to change those habits. I grew up in a household where we never had cheese! So I don't ever buy it. My Mother never bought butter, so I eat my bread dry! We never had chocolate, but this is where I draw the line and I have a fridge full of chocolate. You made my smile here Terry, babies and children often had eggs allergies but they often grow out of it. As for mushrooms, they are an acquired taste. A fun post, love Dolly x x x

I'm so sorry you've come into this the wrong way round. There's more to eggs than being fried, not in grease but in olive oil. Spice them up add some peppers and spinach with garlic. Delish. Now for mushrooms, I eat them almost every day. Again sauteed in the pan where I've say sautéed a salmon filet or chicken filet with herbs anf garlic . But then again, I live in Spain, a different kind of cooking, right? Ulla:)))

This is a subject everyone can relate to since there is something we all choose not to eat for various reasons. My father used to drink butter milk. Oh Yuck no! My mother made dumplings. Eeew! Wet, soggy, bread. No thank you. This is a fun post. It made me think of the many foods friends and family dislike.

Goodness, I think that you hit the nail on the head. Everybody has that one certain food that they do not touch. Mine are spinach and liver.

So, is it odd that I kept putting the word "shit" in every ____ spot? Dang I have a weird mind.

Good stuff, as usually!

Hmm, yes there many food people don't like are allergic too or just will not consume. You did well laying out your reasons and the history behind those. You give several examples and frame them in humorful way the reader can understand.

Good work.

Terry, this is a six-star teaching in my eyes. My husband, nor I, do not like mushrooms. Eggs are a different story. When I was young, I had eggs lots of time I am sure. Now I have a hard time eating eggs or chicken. Our son got his child four chickens at Easter one year. Two brownish - red and two black. Well, my husband and I take care of our grandson most days. The chickens were always outside in their coup. Tom would always go out and feed them until the two brownish red ones died. That left the two black ones. I named them Molly and Polly. I would pick grass and put in their coup with them. Tom would feed and water them. One day a possum killed Molly, which left only Polly. Tom and I always try to take care of Polly. She is a very delightful chicken, and we don't see her as a piece of meat to eat, but as a pet. Well, that's all of my story! Thank you for sharing with us my friend. blessings, Teri

When I was young I hated Brussels sprouts, why? Because my mother made me eat them under threat of no desert desert, but I found I'd gag at the thought of them, as I grew in adulthood I realised I had a phobia, and I quite liked them, but one can get food poisoning from eggs, except I never have, beautifully written Terry, blessings Roy

OMGosh the parenting thing is so right on. I must review this now, as I hate when people do a review and right off the bat, they relate it to something in their life and never tell me about how I did. Your story is awesome, very well written, and completely understandable why you wouldn't eat eggs or mushrooms, especially if you thought you were allergic. I grew up for years thinking that I was allergic to cats, so therefore wouldn't go near them. Now because I have so many friends who love cats, I have given them another chance. I happen to like them now and I am thinking about getting one. However I still won't eat one. (ooooh bad joke!!!I)

So I now look at something that I grew up with and ate my whole younger life and yet may be mortified if I had to eat it now. Oyster stew must have been an affordable thing in our family of nine. Or else my folks just wanted to give their seven children a start on having a better marriage someday by feeding us an aphrodisiac. Dang, no wonder I grew up to be a good lover! (Louise, not the time or place!). As I was saying, as much as I love eggs, if I start to think where or how something got there before I eat it, I probably will pass. So I just make it a habit to not do any thinking about a nice juicy steak or what crab meat looked like before I eat it. So your egg problem, I do understand. Now what's nice is there are not too many problems with vegetables. Like who thinks, ewe this comes from a seed, so I won't touch that? Yet, there are more non-vegetable lovers then non-meat people. Now I have a different problem that you'll probably not hear from anyone but me. If a fly lands on anything that may touch my lips or mouth, it is gone. Dumped down the sink, in the garbage. When you grew up with three brothers you hear every little disgusting thing there is about every time a fly lands on something. It doesn't matter that you can wash it, I still see the little fly poop on it. So you are right, mind over matter

I bet you have learned every little like or dislike of every reviewer so I tried not to weigh you down w my heavy facts, just my little silly ones that everyone else would be too embarrassed to admit: fly-phobia and being raising as kids to be better lovers someday. (Yes, I know that the effects are for the time of consumption, but that fact makes me even more disturbed) LOL.... I think I will quit while I am behind. Great story Terry!
