This is filled with descriptive wording giving the reader the where with all to place themselves directly into the rural farm and surroundings as described, feeling the heat, dust and sunshine all at once.
Nicely done and entertaining.
Cheers,
John

I still think that you could do well with your photography. This picture is amazing.
Your story is so rich in imagery and so enchanting.
Your idyllic setting captivates us city folk.
Having spent a few summers visiting a farm, I know how hard the work is.
Best wishes,
Mary

Thank you, Mary, and Grandpa Westbrook, the patriarch that made Nevertheless Acres come to be. It was quite the gift as an acre where we live averages five to ten grand. I know it was his daughter, my brid, he gifted it to but I'll ride her coattails anytime.

Farm life and extreme rural life are no joke. Work takes on a whole different meaning. You start to lose me at the outhouse. I do like my indoor plumbing. Great glimpse into a dying way of life. Thanks for sharing. Gretchen

For sure, it is gone and where this community was heavily cultivated it is now deficient of growing produce and concentrates on horses first, cattle second.
Comment from Paul Manton
I would have used the phrase 'ante-bellum' were it not for a clearly 20th century tractor sitting in the foreground. [You may want to look at 'perspective' in line 2, Tom. Might mean 'respective'?]
A southern idyll - a wonderful story in the notes too - no longer likely in the UK with our level of urbanization and lack of space - but oh that heat!
I found out what southern heat and humidity are like in New Orleans (Slidell in fact) where the air conditioning keeps you awake, but the alternative is drowning in your own sweat - now we DON'T have that in England!
And then the bayou coughed up all kinds of other alien 'critters' - last time I sunbathe while fire ants are looking for victims (or 'meals'!) And I guess they're all in here - your description fills all the senses - with magnificent vocabulary 'azure blue sky', ' a broiling sun, 'coniferous loblolly pines/undulating gently' - paints a detailed picture - with sound and smell (that privy I promise to avoid!)
Altogether a small masterpiece Tom.
Must be worth a six.

Yes, she and I now are owners that her dad gave to us and to which Nevertheless Acres rests. That name came to be from scriptures whn Christ in the garden pled aloud to His Father, NEVERTHELESS not mine will but thine be done. That is our intent, too.

Thanks for the info Tom

Your wife must of lived in my part of the world. You could have been writing about where I grew up. I was a Mississippi girl and at least half the little town where I was raised sounds like this. I was the first of my bunch to go to college too.

Yes indeed. Life was simple, money scarce but they lived a contente life believing God lives and trusted Him to meet their needs, despite flood and drought.

This is an excellent story. I enjoyed reading it. Your entire presentation is good. You use descriptive words that draw in a reader and truly honor your wife and where she grew up. You presented the photo well, too. Best wishes!
