Hi Wendy. You did well to write this in such an engaging way.

Sadly, the belief that illness/disability must be someone's fault is still prevalent now and it's very unhelpful.

I like that you imagine the parents came to faith along-with their son. I've always assumed the opposite. I guess we'll know one day.

Thank you Sarah. A thoughtful and encouraging review. You are right. We don?t know about the parents so I have added to my notes to say that this was an assumption but not stated in the Bible.

I know the story. You say it is a modern re-telling, but because I've read the story in the Bible and because this is narration and dialogue, I didn't think of it that way. No matter, it is still a well-written story and of interest to those familiar with it and not. If you wanted to make it modern, you could always add more of the modern-looking surroundings of their home, the neighborhood, etc.

An appropriate story for this Sunday. Thanks, Wendy.

Thank you. Yes, you are right. While there is some modern language it?s not really a modern retelling as the context and situation was from that time. I might change the notes I think. Thank you for that insight.

Of course to someone who's read the Bible they know this blind man was Bartimaeus. And the parent were his parents hauled up by the Pharisees to testify that Jesus had healed him, but they were not having it, shown up for their hypocrisy, beautifully written Wendy, well done, blessings Roy

Thanks for reviewing Roy. But no, this was not Bartimaeus, who was in Jericho and Jesus did not touch him. (Mk10). This man was near the pool of Siloam in Jerusalem, and Jesus did touch him. There was at least one other in Bethsaida who was healed from blindness.

You had me riveted from the start. I usually don't read the author notes until I have finished reading and digesting a story. I didn't realize until I was over halfway done that this was retelling of a scripture. You made it feel so real. Great job. Gretchen

This is a very good dramatization of the story of Jesus healing the blind man. Your beginning is captivating, with the blind man as the baby of concerned parents. Describing the climate of the times, and adding dialogue and characters encourages young readers and young adults to read and learn more. Great Bible story telling.

Omigosh. I thought your son was blind. I have a lot of blindness in my family, and I'm always amazed at the things they can do. But I'm glad it wasn't your son.

Thank you. A lovely review. Thankfully not my son. But I was trying to enter into the mind of this one?s mother so I am glad it worked! I appreciate your review.

This is an excellent retelling of the story of the blind man healed by Jesus. I think people today still sometimes think a physical deformity of any kind is the result of the parents' sin . . . and sometimes they are.

I gave you a five even though sadly I found our story to be confusing.
Oh I know, I am probably the only one...right?
But I am honest,
This could be such a great story with some editing...

Thanks Lisa. I appreciate your honesty. You didn?t say where it was confusing - was it the end part with the religious leaders looking for an excuse to kill Jesus?

Thank you for retelling this all too familiar story. I feel you put into perspective. We often put parameters around the Gospel and don't understand what it's really saying or how it can relate to our lives, but it does.

Thank you Barbara. Yes you are right. Sometimes when things are very familiar we don?t recognise the huge and life changing significance.

And they crucified him. I wonder what they would do today probably give the syndrome a fancy name and imply that he wasn't really blind at all it was the result of some nervous disorder.

You?re right. He totally upset their legalistic man made religious laws, so they were looking for a good excuse to kill Him. But you?re right. Today they would have other ways to avoid the real issue. Thanks so much for your thoughtful review.
