I thought you did a great job orchestrating this tense scene of the woman rescuing the nervous horse. The details in the descriptions of the nervous movements and neighing of the horse, as well as the surroundings, dark and dangerous, really set the mood. With just a girl and a horse, you created a riveting scene. And there is suspense too. We have to see if she gets the rest of them out. estory

As someone who has been blessed to be around these magnificent animals , you have done an excellent job of describing their behavior and how important it is for them to see you as their confident leader. Regardless of how you might feel. Trouble is, and a blessing, too, is that they quickly pick up on our emotions. Your descriptions are top drawer and it was easy to identify and sense the scene. I love the way you teach us about horses, while weaving your story. How did you learn so much about them?

You made a great plan to get the horse out, and, literally walked us through the first rescue.

I can't wait to see your plans for getting the others. I have a feeling you won't find them all as easy to free.

Hugs,
Rhonda

    Hi Rhonda,
Thank you for the six stars and the encouraging comments.
I grew up with horses. I also worked on a horse breeding farm during summers while I attended college. We went to a lot of horse shows and competitions.
Thank you for saying you want to read more. You have me smileing.
    Have a great day.

This is a really fascinating story you have here. I like that you aren't just regurgitating facts about horses. You really know them and that comes through loud and clear. I am wondering where the people went. I know her first priority is taking care of the animals but I'm getting nervous for her. Great job. Gretchen

Excellent blow-by-blow description of Ava's struggle to move Horse Number One off the ship and to safety. I also enjoy reading the reaction of the horse.

This is very interesting. I missed the beginning, but your writing is clear enough to not confuse the reader. Ava was fortunately brave enough to take on the rescue of the four horses. Not everyone could do that. With a goat for a companion to at least one of the horses, Ave should be able to keep them close to her as goats aren't great wanderers and one of the horses is probably attached to the goat.

Ava definitely has experience and a good way with horses, and they seem to sense that as well. She planned their escape route well and the first one is up without a hitch. She may have even guessed his name correctly!

This is very interesting, as I know very little about horses except for the few things my daughter taught me when she was a young teen and taking riding lessons. That was quite a while ago, though. I'm enjoying this story a great deal, debi.

    Hi Jim Wile,
Thank you for the kind comments about the writing. Thank you for letting me know about your daughter. I bet she loved her riding lessons. Most kids do. I'm glad you are enjoying the story so far. I appreciate the encouragement.

Yes, she did. She started with western, then switched to English with all the necessary clothes, then took dressage for a couple of seasons. Until she was about 13, she wanted to be a vet, but then she started playing the clarinet, and that soon became her passion, surpassing even horses.

I can remember her quizzing me on things she had learned and taught me, like, "What's the name of the type of knot commonly used in horseback riding?" I even remembered the answer: a latigo knot.

    Great memory.
Funny, I played the clarinet but in my case, the horse won.

Thank you for sharing this with us. I couldn't find any way to improve this post. It's very well written and I can't wait to see if the other horses behave as well. I'm pretty sure the goat will be the problem. LOL
