That's a great story, Jim, and I bet that it is true. Been through a similar experience and have learned to keep my mouth shut and endure what must take place.

This made me smile. I hope they chose another recliner for you.

It took me 15 years to replace the carpet tiles which had been in my lounge since I moved in, but now I finally have a carpet I really like.

We've only been here 10 years, and I'm surprised it took this long, really, to redo the family room.

Thanks for your good review, Sarah.

I laughed my way through this, Jim. Poor you didn't stand a chance with two women on the design scene. I especially liked the bit about your recliner and Taps being played.

Yes, I take a lot of convincing, but I'm thankful in the end. I'm always happy with the results. The same thing happened when she wanted to move into a different house. I balked and balked, but once she wore me down, I was happy we made the move. Right again she was, as usual!

Thanks for your great review and the 6 stars, Shari.

Lovely conclusion, Jim and so glad you finally accepted your role in the family:)) Though you did put up quite a fight. Like the way you personify furniture - your " old friend." This wit all contained in a verse which is great fun and offers a further insight in the Wile household which is always a delight! I said you should do a daily report - you've obviously got bags of material! Take care Debbie

Thank you so much, Debbie. I always love your kind reviews. You know, I don't really mind losing that fight. The end result is quite pleasing, even to my eye.

I really the following: that happy wife means happy life, and that's a sacred rule.

From your poem, I learn that only money can make a happy wife. You started with a new couch and ended replacing every piece of furniture in the living room.

This is well written. Thank you for sharing this story with us.

Thanks so much, Chan. I don't think it's money so much as just a desire to redecorate. Women seem to have it much more than men do.

There is something good to say about using rhymed couplets in a humorous poem. You are one of the few poets here whose work I read and consistently and thoroughly enjoy. And you are a born humorist who is happy to poke fun at himself. Cases in point:

"Are you blind for goodness' sake?"
But instantly I knew that I had made a big mistake. [and all the male readers of your poem are bobbing their heads now!]

My daughter was correct, and so Goodwill hauled him away,
and in the distance, I could swear that "Taps" was being played. [Oh! That's good!]

I'm not a poetry aficionado, but yours is special!

Jay

Lol. So did you get a fancy new recliner? Is it comfortable and well chosen? We still have some mismatched furniture from 44 years ago, when we were first married. My daughter is very good at interior design. You've just given me a good idea! Lol.

I loved the line about Taps being played as your dear friend was hauled off to the Goodwill store:-(

When it comes to my home I also have the final say; alas, I know way more about interior decorating than the man that I live with:-)

Keep that sacred rule in mind.

Fun piece, Jim.

Haha you did a great job, Jim, detailing your
family room makeover. Your words flowed smoothly
with great rhymes--end and some internal, and
created great imagery, I could see this as I read it.
Too bad about your recliner. I hope you liked all
the choices daughter and wife added.
Thanks for sharing Jan

Actually, I did. The room looks great now, and they really did a good job with it, despite their curmudgeonly husband/dad.

I understand how you feel. Once I get everything in place, it stays that way until I move again, which I don't be doing at all now. It's a great poem you wrote to tell your story. Excellent meter and rhyme, sometimes hard to do in iambic pentameter.
