Major nature lover and it amazes me every day. I love taking pictures and writing poems about the shots I take. I never thought of their journey and what they actually go through! Thank you for sharing! ~Janel

Thank you very much for stopping by .Their roots are embedded in the mud and the stems are long and come up tp hold leaves and flowers above water! It is considered as a symbol of perseverance and of being unaffected by a negative environment.

-Nice image and good presentation.
-The lotus flowers are lovely and
I appreciate your notes about them. I
wasn't familiar with the term you defined.
-The syllable count is good, along with the imagery
that makes line two vivid and show a good contrast.
-A good concluding line.
-Good luck in the contest.

thank you very much for stopping by ..the term comes from Greek classic 'Odyssey ' where the hero Ulysses by chance ends up in the land of Lotus Eaters.

You are very welcome and thanks for sharing.

Your poem is spot on, summarising the lotus. They are also a food source; I guess the 'lotus eaters' knew that. I have been served many a clear broth with a slice of lotus stem, geometrically complicated and perfect, and a satisfying meal.

When we go fishing these water lilies are near the swampy waters. They usually blossom where there is a mossy texture surrounding them. You selected a flower that is gorgeous.

Good haiku entry for the 5/7/5 flower contest. Yes, lotus flowers are used in Japan for haiku all the time. I don't understand the connection with the last line. I never heard of lotus-eaters.
I like the presentation too. Concrete images are easy to visualize.
Good syllables count and connection between lines.

Thank you .Two reviewers have pointed out that there are 8 syllables in the second line. I would like your opinion please.( I am not a native speaker of English .)I could change 'divine' to 'pretty' though the effect would be less...
Lotus eaters is a term from Homer's Odyssey .Ulysses during his travel reaches the land of Lotus eaters where every one exists in a state of dreamy idleness.

I know of these flowers and we Chinese love eating their roots. That's why they grow slowly because of their big roots but they are very delicious.
Well done and good luck.

This is a nice poem about a Lotus flower. Never thought of them as a sloth, but that is a good turn and makes you think. If I'm not mistaken, I THINK your second line has 8 syllables instead of 7. Otherwise, great job!

Thank you very much.

Did I miscount, or is this a 5-8-5? Either way, it is a lovely acknowledgement of the lotus. The graphic is a perfect fit that integrates well with the written words.

one more person has told me about the syllable count .I think 'flowers' is the culprit .I am not a native speaker of English I counted it as one syllable.I have to change a word...
Thank you very much for stopping by.

Maybe 'buds' would work in place of flowers

Out of the canker is born beauty and this is how nature compensates for the dull scenes in life and in the corner of our eye we spot a beautiful flower smiling at the world, I enjoyed your fine words that are inspiring to us all about these blooms, love Dolly x

Comment from Gloria ....
I very much enjoyed the subtle humour in your piece. The lotus flower of course holds all kinds of spiritual significance which might explain the slow brew.
Excellent presentation and poem.
Wishing you much luck with the voters. :)
