Hi John, this story is so sweet and endearing. I, too, was married in April and it rained like it was the end of the world--flooding everywhere. Your NYC plans sounded great, but today was not a day to venture into the City.
However, you made a yummy and fun meal to have at home. I like your recipes. My dad use to make homemade potato chips for us kids. He would put them in a small individual brown paper bag and bring them down to the stoop for us kids to eat--hanging on a stoop is a big thing if you drew up in NYC. I haven't made Bruschetta in years. Empty nest here, and my husband doesn't care for it. Bruschetta from Livoti's is now a special treat for me. However, I'll have to check out Mr. G's. I see that they opened their new store. I never tried the mayo/ketchup mix for the macaroni salad. My quick macaroni salad is mayo with sweet relish. Again, no one eats this but me. Hubby and children do not like Mayo. I was raised on Mayo. I guess they have his gene pool.

Congratulations on your wedding anniversary. Enjoy your meal while watching Top Gun and enjoy the Vino and the Guinness. Cheers!

You?ll have to come to Uncle G?s? I?m working there in the deli (over 60 hours per week, tiring).

Thank you so much, Margaret for reading and sharing.
    Did you play stoop ball?

    Thanks again.

You too are so sweet and adorable. Happy Anniversary! I loved hearing about your dinner plans and menu. It all sounds delicious. I would hope Debbie loves you more than Maverick. No contest!

Sending you my very best and blessings to you both.
Sal :))

    Thank you so much, Sally.
    I appreciate your comments.
Depends on the day of the week who she loves more (haha).

I congratulate you both on your anniversary. How wonderful that you've had such a fulfilling life together. The best gift, I believe, is to have your husband prepare dinner for you. That spells out love, in capital letters!

Thank you for sharing this memory, John. The picture
was perfect to add to your well written story. It sounded
liken you and she made the best of the weather issue.
Your menu sounded delicious except the 'dressing' on
the macaroni salad. However, I do like macaroni with a
can of tomatoes, so it probably was good. I imagine you,
your wife, and son celebrated a day later.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

That Mac salad was something my mother-in-law was raised on during the depression. We like it.
Thank you for reading and sharing.

No disrespect intended. The mayo/ketchup would be like thousand island dressing. Yes, the men & women from the Depression were hearty souls and used what they had or could make. 😊

Would go for all of it but can't do Sriracha. My husband would love it. It actually sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate. Often just being together is the important thing. Thank you for sharing.

You can easily replace the Sriracha with another sauce or eliminate all together.
I?m glad you enjoyed the post.

Being flexible and okay with a disappointing change of plans is important to a happy marriage. Your alternate plan was a yummy one. Happy Anniversary and many more.

Congratulation on 44 years of wedded bliss. Sometimes those celebrations with just the two of you had home enjoying good food and a favorite movie might just be the best way to celebrate. Thanks for sharing the directions for making this meal.

Uh, you love Tom Cruise more than she does? (smiley face here) You might want to fix that. (... as much as she loves me.)
Ketchup on macaroni salad???????
Best wishes.

Despite the weather, sounds like you had a great celebration anyway, John, with that tasty meal and entertainment. I loved the story and recipes, of course. However, I've given up using a mandolin as several accidents with it have left me too nervous to use it again. I cringe even thinking about it now! Jim

I use a safety glove for that very reason, though I?ve never been cut.
Thanks for the great review, Stumpy.

Like fine wine, there are years when the harvest was sweeter, more ambrosiac than others. Nineteen seventy-nine must have been as my "magic" and I wedded, too, just a few weeks after you. The waters sailed have been as smooth as Barnegat on a windless day.

Wow, Tom! That is a fine review of words to cherish. We both found the loves of our lives and knotted in the same year!
