I never knew either one of my grandfathers. My dad always worked, But I had a great mentor in a best friend's dad, coincidently he was my opening batting partner, and captain of my cricket team, we had great batting partnerships, was an allrouder, opening bowler too. I learnt about life, family, cricket and bridge, but the big change came at rebirth, beautifully and reflectively written Jim, blessings Roy

I have always been intrigued about the game of cricket. I was a rugby man, never pass up a good scrum. My grandfather was man surrogate father, I am Grateful when he came into my life a the ripe age of five.

Cricket is almost mystical, I have successfully played many sports, loved them all, but cricket is very special, one has to play it from boyhood to understand its mysteries.

A heart-touching poem that really shows the importance of heritage and passing on, through example, the keys to life to the next generation in a way that they will value the heritage they possess.
The picture is very good and fits the poem, illustrating its meaning so well.
These little New Testaments are a jewel to carry. I found mine many years ago and it's still in my bag.
Many thanks for this poem! Please write more!

Very compelling and charming post. It reads like a poetic prose, and is simpland filled with pure verses. Nostalgic at the end but always thorough and enjoyable to read.

I, unfortunately, have used up my meager allotment of 6s already this week, so I have to give you a virtual one. This was just fabulous JLR. What an adorable, modest, wise, and loving man your grandfather was as seen in this nostalgic, idyllic picture you've given us of your past with him. I can only hope to be as good a grandpa to my young grandsons as he was to you.

This was a beautiful reminder of grandfatherly love at its very best. Just wonderful! Jim

That was a lovely poem, and one that brought you and your family such happiness over the years. It's so nice to know that traditions are still kept, and that joy still comes from them. Generations of loving each other and God. What could be a better life than that? :)) Sandra xx

This is one of your best. It's such a real picture of your grandfather as a giant, and goes on to show how you are walking in his footsteps with your own grandchildren. Great poem!

Grandparents bring the wisdom of their lives to young children and they may not do as they say, but they remember the words they speak. It sounds like you are teaching your Grandchildren well here Jim, manners are very important, love Dolly x x x

Thank you Dolly. I think generally speaking, most people are well-mannered, perhaps more so, when they grown-up in generational households.

What a wonderful tribute to a grand old granddad. I suspect your grandchildren when grown will be telling like stories about ... you know ...
you! Well done.

JLR,

This is an exceptional chapter addition in the book Seasons of Change in the NaPoWriMo contest. It a poem full of heart the tells the story of the special relationship of a grandson and his Grandad. It is a gift of gratitude to the Grandad and the heartfelt bond the two shared.

All the best,

Eugene
