Yes I find the tenses interesting, I wonder whether you were trying to portray an air of infinity or agelessness, which the last paragraph infers. But all round a good entry in this contest. Well done, good luck, blessings Roy

I used future perfect continuous to make it timeless. Honestly, it happened so many decades ago that it feels that way. Thank you for the review and for guiding me into a deeper exploration.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It seems like we shared a moment in that serene space.

And you shared with us, taking us into nature's sanctuary with you. Thank you. I could sense the beauty (having been in such an atmosphere before).
Well done, well written.
Best wishes.

Aching for a six here. How lovely this is and reminiscent of my native Georgia. We must be on the same page as I just wrote a tanka poem about my Georgia.
Beautifully written and illustrated, Nicki. A masterful write and contest winner in my eyes.

Thanks, Sally, for the review and your kind words. This was in Central Pennsylvania.
Comment from Terry Broxson
Even with only seventy-five words, the writing is so good that it seems real. In this case, the experience you describe seems real also. So, it makes one wonder if it's fiction or nonfiction. Excellent work. Terry.

Thank you, Terry. I've never been a nature girl, so this experience decades ago stayed with me.

Absolutely lovely, Nicki.
You have described where I live, where I wander, and how I feel when I arrive perfectly.
Nothing brings me more peace than wandering about the environs of where I have called home for the past 40+ years...
Kindred spirits.
Thank you for sharing!

To experience the complete silence such as you described, may be a bit frightening to some, intimidating to some others, but to the author, this silence was a huge comfort, a serene almost worshipful place, where you were able to commune with the natural wonders created by heaven's supreme host.

Such a beautiful piece of art which melds so perfectly with your words Nancy. I can project myself and really imagine the silence because I've "heard" it before walking under a canopy of pines. Even if I hadn't had the experience, you're able to convey such a sublime scene all within the guidelines of the contest. Awesome work! good luck in the contest!

This is a wonderful piece of flash fiction, Nicki. I love your concluding sentences claiming that no one can take this wonderful experience of nature away from you because you always have the memories of it.
Your descriptions are vivid and succinctly create a terrific picture of why the forest was heaven for you on Earth. Very well done. Jim
