Hi Yvonne,
If you have some other jobs from your younger days, please do include them. They are both interesting and funny.
I especially liked the part about the men who couldn't drive the hearse worth a crap, and you had to drive for them. But then, you were driving that school bus for a few years, and that must have been quite a trial at first. I'll bet you could have been a pretty good Nascar driver!
My favorite part of your job in the funeral business was this,
" ... a man called and asked us to look up a name. After a lot of effort in looking for this name, I had to confess we couldn't find it. The caller asked, "Do you know who I am?" Right away, my hackles were up, and I replied I didn't. He said, in a most pompous tone, he was the CEO of our company. So. I asked, "Do you know who I am?" He said he didn't. I said, "Good!" and hung up." ... That's hilarious!
Nicely penned! Thanks for sharing!

I would love to read more of your stories. I don't think you're a smart aleck. I think you have common sense. There's a huge difference between the two. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Oh Yvonne, that was so funny, especially the one where your CEO spoke to you that way! Good for you. I'm so sorry I haven't a six left, I'll make sure I have one for your next story. I have to go back and read the other jobs you had. I'm glad you 'stole' that urn, I would have too. I annoys me when discounts are given to the well off friends. That's horrid. You've told some hillarious stories here, and isn't that the way life should be? When I go, I want my son to set up his disco and have all the family to come and celebrate my life, not sit and cry. They can cry a little bit, because I'll be watching, lol. I'm sure you could write a book on your time as a funeral director. I loved this, my dear SATP, love you so much. :)) Sandra xxx

Thank you for a wonderful review. That's better than any six. I'm glad to see you hear again. You worry me, and I don't know what's happening. You must move to Arkansas, so I can keep an eye on you. 🤣🥰

Fix jovs to jobs in title. I know I'd forget before the end of this review. I am so enjoying these stories. You don't back down from a challenge. I know that about you. Just from reading. It takes a special person to work with grieving people. There are so many varied responses to grief. You need to publish these. Gretchen

Thank you, Gretchen. I appreciate your support and encouragement. I'm surprised at the good responses I got about what to some is an odd job.

I love your stories and your funeral home stories are the best. I will email you with more questions if you don't mind. Anyway, I hope you keep sharing. I remember the "urn" story and I know you blessed all the families you worked for during their time of great grief and need. Bless you!!

This is an excellent account of your account of becoming a funeral director. Your experience driving a school bus must have helped you handle the hearse. Your description of various experiences you had dealing with the funerals and the bereaved parties adds to your story. I'm glad you stole the urn for that family. The story of how you got the deceased man down the stairs is interesting, and I liked the insights into how the various families reacted. Also, that information about how they tore the backs of the suits to get the dead person dressed was a new one to me. You certainly had a variety of experiences, especially dealing with the calls in the aftermath of Katrina. Great work, worthy of a six. In your second paragraph, I believe you should use "working" with families instead of work, in keeping the structure of the rest of the sentence. judi

Thanks for sharing this Yvonne. I have often wondered how Funeral Directors coped with their job and
just what they had to do. Good job with the story and very interesting. Nancy:)

A definitely a great picture of a hearse, damommy. I think I liked your time as a funeral director very well. You definitely had some stories to share for your time there. Perhaps we could share some of those stories because I was a hospice RN and I absolutely loved that job. Very well done and greatly enjoyed. Blessings n Hugs!!!

Then you understand when I say I enjoyed my work. Some people think you must be weird working with the deceased. Thanks, Alie.

No you are absolutely right. You are so very welcome, Yvonne.

Wow! Yvonne what a job and it sounds like a big responsibility. You mention a family who had a bloody fight at the graveside? What terrible behaviour. I am glad there were some humorous moments to ease the tension here. You had some busy times and it must have been such a stressful job as grieving people can be awkward. It sounded like you did an amazing job Yvonne and were able to handle every situation. What a way to end your career! You went out with a bang! This is an amazing post and I wish I had a six left for you, a very interesting true story about your life as a funeral director, much enjoyed, love Dolly x
