This piece is sooo inspiring, because it resonates with my feelings, thoughts, and desires. As I read, I was amazed at how well you expressed things I've felt since I began writing, but couldn't put into such eloquent and poetic words. Two feelings stood out most. Listening to current events with heightened interest, and receiving reviews that let me know my writing resonates with others. I enjoyed reading the reasons why you write. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you very much for this lovely review, so very encouraging and full of support. The way it resonated with you is exactly that sense of connection, which is so important and so lovely.
I also value, very highly, the gift of six stars. That makes my day!

Some additions are hard to shake and this is one of them. It's kind of like breathing. You have to do it or there will be consequences. As you wisely observe, it takes control and that isn't always easy.
Jay Squires is a great writing so you can't go wrong having him mentor you.
Thank you for sharing and good luck in the contest.

I have read several of these Why I Write posts and I continue to be blown away by how talented and devoted my fellow fanstorians are! Certainly you and this post are battling for a top spot in a very competitive contest. I love your post. I can identify with your post as I experienceda time when writing saved my life and it was what I did every day. I am now a 'casual drinker of the poison'. I truly enjoy writing, but I segregate the time I give to this joy. I suppose that makes me a 'weekend drunk' - totally immersed when I'm there, but soberly occupied elsewhere when I'm not.
Wendy, this piece is a 7 - 8 -9 star effort. Sorry I only have 6 to give. Good luck in the contest.

Being a songwriter who eventually recorded and performed those skits and songs semi professionally, I still mix my activity, being a healed healed/alcoholic/gambler/smoker, I understand compulsion, but I still perform, clean, rehearse, review and write, I discovered this site 11 years ago, it's still the best outlet for one's addiction, but a healthy one, I can write tributes, I write a weekly poem for the church Facebook page, and best of all, countless tributes for friends and family and strangers, a useful addiction. Well done, enjoy, blessings Roy

I'm all for giving into this addiction. There are so, so, so many terrible things you could be doing. I love your writing. Keep it up. Just picture me as the little devil on your shoulder telling you to "just write one more little line. It isn't going to hurt anyone." LOL. This was a very personal and accurate piece about our dilemma. Gretchen

Thank you for a wonderful review Gretchen. Love it. I think you are on my shoulder right now: I'm answering reviews, but have the urge to write. Should i give in to the urge, or do the reviews? Lol.

You feel much the way we all do. So much of this I can relate to, but you are more disciplined than me because I let too many things go in order to do what I want to do, which is write. There aren't enough hours in the day. Even when we win the contest, that high is short lived. We want another one. But I know many my age who sit around watching TV and wasting what is left of life. Doing something we enjoy keeps us going.

You're so right, many waste their time on TV. At least writing is productive and educational and creative. Thanks so much for a lovely review.

Wendy,
Oh I wish I had a six star left in my knapsack to reward on this piece.
You have shown how we, through the joy of putting the pen to the paper can be.
I stepped away years ago because I became to overwhelmed by this entire process.
Now, much older, hopefully wiser I can pace myself, and focus more on learning the craft as opposed to before.
This is a fantastic post.
Cheers to the joys of writing...

I enjoyed Jay's post too. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. Yes, why we write is individual to each person, yet all writers have something in common, the love of writing. I enjoyed reading and good luck with the contest.

LOL, I am glad the housework is up to date! Wendy, this is a wonderful entry for this contest. I should have saved a six this week. I did read earlier in the year that you were cutting back (as I am), but then I noticed you creeping up the rankings, and now #2! You go, girl!
I do think your story, while inspired by Jay and who wouldn't be, is going to give him some competition in this contest. There are also some other good entries. Thank you for entering the contest. Keep up the good work, and I ain't talking about ironing! Terry.

Yes, I was cutting back but it didn't last long. I'm not going to worry about poetry too much from now on. Yes, there are many excelllent entries, so it will be interesting to see how we go. Thanks so much for reviewing.

Living is but a momentary passing Authors come and go. Many self-published. Too many for the publishing houses to consider. Going self-publishing is enticing however how many would one print at what cost and afterwards ... ?
