This is excellent. I love the cadence of your writing. It just feels like a natural, flowing piece of writing. Your rhyme pattern is very good. I love that it speaks of admiration of a peer/opponent relationship. I can tell you regarded him very highly. He would be proud and honored by this. Tammy Gould.

Thanks, Tammy. One of my regrets in life was not showing this poem to Carlton before died.

WOW! What a beautiful tribute to your friend. The six stars are for the flow of your poem. It was like a gentle stream just flowing along. I do not see any need for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Nice tribute. Those friendships are dear and tough to find. Sports runners like yourself and Carlton are indeed a rare breed. The punishment your body endures and to continue running into your 70`s and 80`s is remarkable. Congrats on your friendship.

Nice tribute...Carlton sounds like someone I'd like to have met! A fitting entry to this contest, for sure! I would advise you to ask Tom to move it on over to the poetry side. Although it may be sports non-fiction, it is surely not prose. Poetry is fine for the contest -- promote it there, where those who love poetry will be sure to find it!

Thanks for the review, Katharine. Half marathons have been my limit. Carlton use to run races that were as short as 5K and as long as 100 miles.

In this life I can think of nothing better for anyone than to have someone with values you admire and who has set a standard that you would like to achieve. Though you may never reach that person's level, it is always a good thing to strive for.
