This is so sad, I think age has some compensations, but really it has so many tragedies of lost friends through that one thing we all face, dare I say it? Death. And there is nothing more of a jolt that a loved one passing. But you're right, Joy would have preferred this end. Beautifully written Beth, I'm so sorry, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy. The older we get the more losses we face. God comforts us. I will miss her so much but at the same time I'm happy for her that she didn't have make the move she felt would so painful. I don't think she suffered and God worked things out for her.

Thank you for sharing Joy with us. I am sorry for your loss, and I am praying for her family and friends, that includes you. I'm sure Joy is looking down knowing that you know her wish came true.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend, Joy. It's never easy to lose someone we love, but the sudden shockers that catch us unexpectedly, many times hurt the worst.

Thank you Ric. I will miss her deeply but I can't help but be glad she doesn't have to make the move she dreaded so much. I think she would prefer it the way it happened.

Yes, we don't want to see the ones we love sitting around in those places, most tranquilized to some degree so they aren't too depressed at being there.

This essay, No Warning Bell, gives the readers a gentle reminder through this story that we will all pass and should do what we can to preserve our quality of life.

First of all, Beth, I'm so sorry for the loss of your dearest and closest friend. I can understand the the shock and, now grief, it must be for you and Joy's family.
But it does appear that she got her wish. She never had to leave, after all. One day, I'm sure, that will be a consolation to all of you.
One last thing. I loved your poem. It is so true, we never know what a day may bring. Ulla xx

Heart rending for sure. I surely would not ever want to discover a cold dead body, especially if it's been sitting there a while. ........................................................

Thank you Tom. We didn't get to go in the house. Once the emergency crews broke in, they didn't let anyone in until they had taken her body away. It is sad but from her point of view, I think she would have prefered death to having to move.

This was very powerful, in part because it is true, and the respectful way you handled the story. The poem set the mood and tone. I was glad you started with it, because it drew me deeper into the actual story. Well done!

An unexpected happening for sure. I know you have written about your relative and friend, Joy. I'm so sorry that this happened but I'm sure she had a good life. Do you think covid was the cause?

Thank you Rosemary. I don't know if it was Covid. I think it was meant to be that she not have to make that move. She had heart problems and other things. We spent two nights there after her body was taken away. If it was Covid, we might be esposed as well.

My deepest sympathy for the loss of your friend, Beth. As you grieve for her, remember she wanted to leave on her own terms, and death came gently for her in the setting she loved.
The picture by Joy showed her beauty as a person, friend, and talent as a photographer.
Your story is beautifully written to express your grief and love for your friend.
Best wishes,
Mary

Thank you so much Mary. I almost feel guilty that I'm not feeling worse about her death, but I can't help but be happy for her because I realize it was the way she would have wanted it to be.

Your poem illustrates your sad story perfectly. I'm sorry that you lost a friend, but I can't help but be glad for her to get her wish to end her life in the place she wanted to be.

Thank you Verna, I do feel glad for her that she was able to get her wish and the dread and heartbreak of that move to Florida isn't something she has ahead of her. I really appreciate the review.
