When I saw the video of him running inside the capital building I howled with laughter! Some of these people are such hypocrites.
Your poem won't appeal to everyone, but it's your "patriotic" right to express your view.
Nice presentation. Good luck.

Thank you, Pam, for your comments and review. You and half of the nation were LOL. If he has children, that video will shame them at some point in their lives. I don't worry about naysayers. I just speak my truth.

This 5-7-5 poem uses sarcasm well in the words and the red, white and blue color scheme. Me like this and the mob of Jan 6th are the farthest things from patriots. They could be treated as traitors.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Good luck in the contest.
Happy New Year.

Society calls it "dirty politics" because politicians like Hawley and many, many others, say what they need to say and do what they need to do to convince the public they support them. Politicians will even change parties if they think they will get more support and votes from the other side. Your 5-7-5 poem is a clever entry for the contest. Best wishes.

Thank you for your review. I agree with your comments. It seems to be the dirtiest I can remember it being.

A clever 5-7-5, and yes, it does reveal a lot about the man. It's easy to be a "man of action" when one is carried along by a tide of peer pressure. Well done. Best wishes for your entry.

The patriot is a very suspiciously oft used word to elevate a person's name, when some questionable deed is done, but isn't that Revolution? Supposedly done to change the leadership, and in the case of many nations leads to tyrannical dictatorship. Beautifully written, good luck, blessings Roy

I agree that anyone who continues to spread the lies that the "election was stolen" should never be allowed in office again. They cannot be allowed to keep threatening democracy. Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you for the review. Sadly, that will not be the case. Get ready for the clown show in the House in 2023.

Sigh. There has to be repercussions for people who have spread malicious lies about the 2020 election!
-
I agree. I hope justice is done.

When there is little threat of danger, the coward puts on a brave front. He pretends to be part of the crowd, but in the crucible of battle action , and heat; the coward runs for cover and denies having any part of the blame in the aftermath. Indeed "Run, Josh, Run!" You sniveling little coward.

I remain neutral in this case. However, Mystery Author,
your contest entry was presented well. I liked the color
scheme, the image, and the correct syllable count.
One thing, though, the word were should be was your friend
Best wishes, Jan

Friends is plural so I thought it would be were your friends. Thanks for the review. When our democracy is on the line, I cannot remain neutral.
-
I believe friends isn't the subject of the sentence. The word mob is a collective noun that takes a singular verb.
I thought the mob wee your friends.
[The mob, I thought, WAS your friend. ]
-
I understand about collective nouns but in this case the mob members acted differently. Some were bystanders and some actively participated in defiling the Capitol.
Should I use a singular or plural verb with a collective noun?
Collective nouns, like team, family, class, group, and host, take a singular verb when the entity acts together and a plural verb when the individuals composing the entity act individually. The following examples demonstrate this principle:
The team is painting a mural. (The team collectively paints the mural, so the verb is singular.)
The team are in disagreement about how to paint the mural. (The people on the team disagree with one another, so the verb is plural.)
The family takes a trip to California once a year. (The family collectively takes a trip, so the verb is singular.)
The family have differing ideas about the annual trip. (The individuals in the family have differing ideas, so the verb is plural.)
Note, though, that since some readers may find a singular verb with a collective noun distracting, it may be best to revise:
The team members are in disagreement about how to paint the mural.
The artists are in disagreement about how to paint the mural.
The family members have differing ideas about the annual trip.
-
I was taught collective nouns take a singular verb.
-
We all were, but grammar rules change. The Brits and Aussies use either or.
-
I changed it to mob was your friend. I went with the American English standard.
