I feel so bad for Joy and all that she went through. Her husband was not a man of good character as he had no remorse for his drinking and cheating. I liked that it made you appreciate Evan even more.

Thank you Helen. Joy thought maybe the drinking was causing him to cheat, but later after he had to give up drinking and get in AA because of a liver transplant, he continued to cheat on his third wife.

Did you keep a detailed daily diary? What stunningly vivid descriptions! Makes me want to go, and I hate traveling. Fine work!

Thank you Elizabeth, No I didn't keep a diary. I wish I had. I had pictures and the memory is still pretty clear. I did a little double checking on line to make sure memory didn't fail me. Traveling isn't much fun but actually being there is wonderful.

I sure am glad that your friend confided in you. It sounds like she loved her husband and that's why she stayed with him as long as she did. Too bad he drank, probably the problems would have seized. Your trip has been wonderful and interesting.

Thank you for the review. Yes Joy loved him very much. She continued to love him after he had to give up drinking due to a liver transplant. Then she learned he was continuing to cheat even on his fourth wife.

An interesting combination of memoir and travelog. The pace is good. The images are well presented. The narrative stays on point. A larger smattering of personal experiences might add more liveliness to the story.
Thanks for a good read.

I agree with you about Joy's life. It sounded her marriage was a mess early on even though her name is Joy. I'm glad you and Joy had a good time together. Did you do the Blue Grotto? We didn't. My husband didn't want to.
You and Joy should get together.
Well done.

Thank you so much for a nice review. We didn't get to go to the Blue Grotto for lack of time. It is top attraction and I'm sorry we missed it. Joy and I talk almost everday and see each other about twice a year. She lives in North Carolina and I live in Tennessee.

Capri sounds wonderful and I am glad you enjoyed it Beth. As for the couple you describe here, when things go wrong in a marriage early on and we don't complain about it, we are in a way condoning the behaviour and it is hard to change things later on when the rot has set in. I like the honesty in your story here Beth, love Dolly x

Thank you Dolly, I agree about confronting things early on in a marriage. I alway believed that some of Joy problems with men was a lack of communicaton. You don't need to yell and scream but you do need to set boundries and talk everything out.

You have one misspelled word. The word (flitting) should be (flirting). Everything else looks perfect. I thank you for sharing all these lovely memories with us. I look forward to your next writing.

I like how you transitioned from the story of Joy's sad marriage to the happy one of yours. I enjoyed going to Capri with you and Frances who overpacked for sure. Compact description of the island and its history. As for the flirting, I remember our tour guide telling us that if we accepted a drink from one of the men returning from military duty, he saw that as an invitation you would go to bed with him!

Thank you for the reveiw. Flirting must be the nature of the Latin men. Even the street venders would offer to come way down on their prices if you give them a kiss. LOL
