Oh man. I want to try about five recipes in this piece! And this line: "Santa doesn't have much time in the southern hemisphere!" has got to be the funniest one I've read this week! What a drool-worthy submission for this contest. I'm already pondering making the carrot-pineapple-cranberry one RIGHT NOW.

Hello Wendy,
Outstanding gal! What a feast you've described. I don't think I would do well in the heat. I suppose it's a matter of what you get used to, but I love to be where the fresh fruits you mentioned were easily available. I'm not familiar with trifle. When I first read it I thought you were talking of tripe, which is I believe the belly of a cow. What you've mentioned sounds so much better. The picture was so colorful as well. How could you help but to thank God for the diverse types and colors and flavors of the food that He's so freely given us? Thanks so much for sharing this delightful look into your culture. I hope that you will continue to share different things from Australia, I find it fascinating.
Have a blessed day.

Thank you Tom for a super review. I added a bit to explain what trifle is! Lol. Yes, praise to God for our good food, and the variety and different tastes are wonderful, and should never be taken for granted. Thank you too for your gift of six stars. It's a great honour, and I value it a lot.

Your Christmas meal is quite different from ours. I can't imagine Christmas in the summer. We usually have snow on Christmas, but with global warming, we often do not have a white Christmas.

Thank you Paul for reviewing. Always appreciated. I've only had three Christmases in the northern hemisphere, and one was a white Christmas which was very special for me!

Thanks for sharing this Wendy, Americans may think we're strange, (they possibly may be right) but then I've been to the states a few times, and they are different, not terribly so, we get a lot of our ways from them an Europe, as do they. Beautifully written my friend, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy for your thoughts and support. Of course, Australia is so vast that different areas may do things differently.

This sounds delicious, and healthy as well :) Thanks for sharing. I think it would be a great idea if you wrote more often about Australia (your customs, festivities, famous people etc). It would help plenty of us (Northern Hemisphere residents) to expand our horizons.

This sounds so delicious! We love fresh fruit and seafood too. We tend to cook like our ancestors and opt for roasted lamb or prime rib of beef for Christmas. I make my famous cranberries regardless. Dessert is anything goes and assorted gluten free cookies as I am allergic to so many things. If I don't make it, I can't eat it! Holiday bummer.
Sending you my best today as always, my very nbest wishes for the holidays and for the contest,

A lovely review, Sally - thank you, and also for the good wishes.
Yes, we have Fin (12) who needs gluten free, and others with allergies too (nuts, dairy etc.) In general we all work together and contribute different dishes so that there are sufficient options for all those with issues.
Best wishes for your Christmas too.

I love love love that you took the time to write and share this! First-hand knowledge about another county's Christmas culture is such a rich treasure for me. AND you added a recipe! Wow! You always delight and thrill me with every single thing you write.

I live in Maine in the US so we're likely to have snow. That being said, your list of Australian foods sound delectable. I would certainly enjoy them at Christmas or any other time. Merry Christmas, Wendy.

Wendy, what a great story filled with wonderful smells and tastes of marvelous food from your equally wonderful country. What to serve? Here are a few suggestions from Texas. Tamales at Christmas are always good, particularly on Christmas Eve.
I do see you left out the potatoes. So, you will need mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, potatoes au gratin, baked potatoes, and of course french fries. Merry Christmas to all. Terry.

Lol. We do enjoy baked potatoes and baked sweet potato and pumpkin, but if it's a hot day we'll only have salds probably plus a potato bake (au gratin), as that is a family favourite. French fries for Christmas? Never! Thanks for your wonderful review.
-
Sorry, ihadn't finished, I stopped to google Tamales, as we don't have them here - but they do look good! I'll have to try them.
Thanks again.

Tamales are a Mexican tradition for Christmas eve. Mexican heritage has a large influence in Texas.

This article, The Aussie Way, is an in teresting reminder that the world is different on the other side. I will definitely try this Chicken and Mango Salad. That shredded carrots and pineapple may be my new number one.
