Wow! I read it twice.what a surprise ending. Very spectacular and clever. You should have entered this in a contest.
Certainly deserve a six for its cleverness and creativity.
Best wishes
Mary

Hahahaha, Bill, I loved this. You really had me going there for a minute, and what a wonderful ending and twist to this little flash. Your morbid sense of humour is just up my street. Ulla:)))

I'm Ulla, and not Yvonne. But it still works for me, your story that is, lol.

This is another extremely amusing one. In my opinion you could have entered it in a flash fiction contest. I didn't see the first twist coming at all, and the second, about Gabe's job choice is only creeping up on me now. Great stuff. Kate xx

Good one, Bill. You had me fooled until the end. For sure, I thought his mother was in the casket. Looks as if Gabe has a job waiting for him when he graduates.

Loved the surprise that you wrote in for the reader. I was wondering if Gabe was symbolic for the angel Gabriel. And we are wondering why he would give his mom such a hasty goodbye. But it turns out his mom is not dead but she works at the funeral home. My daughter works as a funeral home director's assistant. She's learned a lot about the process. I think if she goes for a degree, it can be done online now.

Gabe may have been Gabriel, but unconsciously. Thanks for the boost.

Why you sneaky son of a gun. You had me completely fooled. I was at first thinking what a cold hearted jerk this guy is, and then I find out that the guy was not saying goodbye to his mom's corpse at all. Sneaky, sneaky.

Oh, thank goodness. I thought his mother was deceased. When I worked as a funeral director, we did have some instances where people just made an appearance at their parents' graves. Shameful. I'm glad this wasn't that kind of story. But you got me good! hahahaha

LOL! Only you could come up with such a fabulous twist at the end! I just loved this one. Everyone thinks he's saying goodbye to his late departed mum, but she actually worked there! I loved this one, so very funny! LOL :)) Sandra xxx
