I really liked your short fiction. It was witty, and though fiction, like most good fiction, it had an element of truth. Unfortunately, had this contest been non-fiction, my story would have started almost the same.

I agree with your sentiment - I often feel like I want a box marked 'none of the above'. Of course, the problem with 50 choices would be that we could have leaders elected who only 5% voted for...

Nice piece and I feel your frustration. Today it is all about voting against and not voting for. And why not? Look at the adds. I don't know what a candidate stands for. All I know is that his/her opponent is a scumbag.

As a writing prof of mine once said about that quandary: The only people who want that job are mentally ill. You almost have to be, right? SOO much stress and pressure CONSTANTLY so you'd have to have quite the opinion of yourself to function. Definitely not the mark of someone in his right mind!!

This is such a well-written essay. I loved the large font for easy reading. However, that vo(mi)ted created word is brilliant and funny as heck. Interesting post! Yes, some years, our choices are awful. I have even resorted to writing in candidates out of protest. But then again, that's a wasted vote. I liked that the narrator actually worked for the incumbent. Best wishes in the contest!

Clever writing. It's sad but true that voting brings out such responses in people. It's a duty and a privilege, but an unpleasant one. I agree that the candidature being so narrow is not helpful.

I won't vote for somebody I know nothing about, I have on political party leanings atall I did once, but I'm a little disillusioned with politics, I'll leave it in the hands of others, anf really God, a fitting entry in this contest.
