This Tribute to Bart Hersey is well made and the story that is told makes us all miss the man we never got a chance to meet. Good memories of a nice guy.

What a beautiful, revealing and touching friendship poem, it is truly heartwarming and filled with the wonderful memories of your friend, Bart.
This was the stanza that made it for me: I ran many miles in that new pair of shoes,
And the pain in my feet went away.
So I went to visit that man on the hill
To thank him in person one day...what a way to start a friendship! It's just a genuine and happy though bittersweet write, I just loved it! Well done I feel as if I really got to know you and your friend superb I loved it :)

Thanks, Meia. I still go up to visit his widow when I can. I gave her a framed copy of this poem.

Paul, this is an outstanding poem for this contest, good luck. If I could make one suggestion in the form of a press release:
Gifted Poet, Paul McFarland adopts larger font for his work.
His readers rejoice! Excellent work. Terry.

Thanks, Terry. I'll try to figure out how to make a larger font.

Trust is a necessary element in a real, enduring friendship. Your excellent poem tells the heartwarming story of such a friendship. Those of us who find just a FEW real friends in life are indeed fortunate. Very enjoyable

Hello Paul a good day to you. I hope this review finds you well. As a poet/writer it is always interesting to see the different takes on these contest/writing prompts. I think your take is definitely a good one. Good job and good luck in the contest.

Wish you would have told me sooner. I haven't a pair of shoes that are comforting. You were a lucky man... if this was a true story; if not well men can dream, can't we?

A nice homage poem. The flow is good. The rhymes are not forced. The conversational tone is warm. The piece stays on point. The images are clear.
Thanks for a good read.

A fine tribute to your friend. These friendships that last through the years are rare, and it is a great sadness when they end. My heartfelt condolences.

I really enjoyed reading this poem. It was a nice dedication to a friend now gone. The feeling was definitely there but the flow at the beginning was a little off. Perhaps read it aloud to yourself to resolve that issue. Nice job

A great poem about a unique friendship that lasted for many years. I can see your friendship comes to life in your excellent verse. I like the last line the best.
What fate has in store for us, we never know.
It sometimes takes loved ones away.
But whenever I lace up a pair of Bart's shoes,
His spirit is with me that day.
