This is a wonderful, heart-warming family story, Wendy. What a beautiful gift indeed. What a surprise for Tim to discover his grandmother's name inside the last books. Surely his mother could not deny his request to keep them. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks so much Judy for your lovely review, and for your good wishes. Much appreciated.

(I am sure she would let him keep them - it's not like seven bookcases full of books which is what she had!)

A love of books is something that I identify with. My upstairs office is lined on two sides with filled bookshelves. I just like the feel of having around. So, I enjoyed your story.
One suggested correction in the sentence below. Too many 'suddenly' that seemed to interrupt the flow for me. And, in my humble opinion, I would drop the 'deeply'. Rather than emphasize the mourning for me, it minimized it.
However, suddenly life changed. Jenny became quite ill, and quite suddenly passed away. The family mourned deeply.
Love you story. ann

Thank you for sharing this writing prompt with us. I do completely understand. I have way too many books that I'd read to my first graders. I kept them at school. When I retired, I gave a lot away and still have too many. My den is overflowing with books.

I understand completely. Books are much loved friends, and so hard to give away, even if you know some-one else will love them. Thak you so much for your thoughts and a fine review.

What a touching story... first the connection between Jenny and Tim -- enjoying books and sharing them over a tea/snack as well. (Time well spent). And then the final gift... Her books to be remembered by forever. Terrific!!!
Heartwarming! Good luck!
Hugs, Carol

A fine story of book recycling here Wendy and I often wonder what will happen to all my books when I've gone as I don't like parting with any of them! Most of them are already second hand as I rarely buy a new book and I treasure hem all, much enjoyed, an entertaining piece, love Dolly x

Aww. I was hoping for that ending. And this actually happens sometimes. I'm glad that the grandson can always keep his grandmother close by sharing the books she loved. Best wishes in the contest!

A very heart-warming story. I recently had to downsize and sell many of my old books and wish I could have been as creative with my books as Nan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for your lovely review. I always appreciate your time and thoughts. Massive thanks for six stars - that's a great encouragement, and a valued gift.
It's so hard to part with books. They may be only made of paper - but they are loved!

Heartwarming story. Ingenious idea--a customer voucher plan--have you seen this done--makes perfect sense! Wonderful ending--such things have happened on occasion--is this based on an incident?

The first bit is true. We downsized, and gave away as many books as we could, then took the rest to a second hand bookstore, and got a credit voucher, which I gave to my oldest grandson. The rest is fiction. He has bought his first lot of books, but I am still here, and my name isn't inside any covers! So the second half is fiction.
Thank you so much for reviewing! Always appreciated.

I figured that if it pertained to you, that at least the middle part wasn't true! Perhaps soneday he gets a book that you recognize as yours!

This is a lovely story and not beyond the bounds of possibility.
I was reminded of a time several years ago when i wanted to have a clear out and offered a load of books for sale. I did not really want to get rid of them but they were taking up too much. The dealer offered so little i refused to sell and i still have the books and more.

Thank you for reviewing, and I agree - the second hand bookshops don't offer much. (That first bit is true about getting a credit voucher, but the rest is fiction.)
I appreciate your time and thoughts.
