Thank you for going into so much detail about the different kinds of aircraft. I learned a lot. I could identify with the story; I had a great relationship with my father also. You told a great story.

Hello J. P. Olesen,
Lovely piece of Biographical Non-Fiction having lucid as well as perfectly matching the theme phraseology, captivating flow throughout from the beginning to the end, and depicting the theme / Aircraft Ride in a very interesting way.
The last three lines are particularly noteworthy.
BEST OF LUCK in the contest.

This story tells of a wonderful memory between father and son.

The details of the plane ride highlight the excitement and emotions of the moment.

The connection to this 5 dollar excursion is well expressed in the poem's title.

Great work.

Nicely presented.

This is a compelling true story which is very well written, providing creative imagery and descriptive details of the planes. As you put the reader directly in the story, I could feel the excitement of being seated in an open cockpit feeling wind rush past your face, and looking "up" to the ground as you hung upside down. This is a great entry for the contest. Best wishes.

I loved this contest entry. Again, it's the time parents spend with their kids that's important. Your dad took the time to set up this flight for you. Wow!! Good luck with the contest.

I replied with a grin of my own any dentist would have recognized. (good description)

I'd sat next to my dad while he performed this maneuver in a Cessna, (sat beside my dad, has to deal with definition)

"This is great!" I thought. "So far, so good!" (thought should be itialics)

I think the attention to detail, especially when you talk of the airplane maneuvers and the boy feeling the tug of the seatbelt as he hangs upside down and his stomach going into his mouth in those barrel rolls and loop the loops, really made this little story come alive. Its all very vivid and colorful, right down to the descriptions of the rigging and struts of the aircraft and the rush of wind as you fly in the open cockpit. Its an exciting moment in a life and you really bring it to life here. estory

I took my first flight with the Civil Air Patrol on May 5, 1961, Alan Sheppard went into space on Mercury 3 and I went on a training flight with the rest of the cadets in a vintage DC-3(C-47). In VietNam I flew on Hueys, Cariboos, and C-123 after the war I went into the Oil Field and spent thousands of hours over the next 30 years in Bell 206's and 212's going from platform to platform.
When I was ready to get my training I found that I had developed type two diabetes.
Amazing what fathers will do.

This is a an great story and I really enjoyed and it brought back memories of the time when I was six and my dad set up a flight for me at the local aiirport. It was in an enclosed plane where I sat up front and the pilot was behind me. I think we did a rollover but nothing as exciting as what you did. For me it was the first time I'd ever been in a plane and my dad was never in one, but he wanted me to have the experience.

That happens to a lot of people. They used ot call it evil Eddie. It seems to happen more often with certain computers. I've noticed it a lot on the notes from people living outside the US.

This was an inspiring and well-told story of a special day out with your dad. Your tale put us right in the passenger seat as the pilot took you through all the acrobatics we normally see from the ground. I felt your genuine pleasure and the bittersweet recollection of a great day out when your dad was still in good form. Neat share.

What a brilliant time you had! I'm sure I would have lost my breakfast, but what a thrill that must have been. It's sad that we 'lose' our closeness when we enter our supposedly grown-up teens, but I'm so glad you had that time and your dad arranged it for you. It's also sad that he has that terrible illness. It's hard when they don't remember anymore. This is a lovely, well written story, and I wish you the best of luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx
