This is a lovely poem, Erika, and sweet picture. I'm impressed that you have a rescue ranch. Friends of ours were just telling us about the rescue farm near us where they volunteer to help the single woman who manages it. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read my little poem about Finnegan. Yes, we have horses, dogs, cats, sheep, pigs, and tortoises. I am very fortunate to have good help in taking care of them.

I really like the creative rhyme scheme you created with the last word in stanza rhyming each time. It gave the poem a unique meter that was consistent throughout the poem. Your poem is excellent.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I appreciate it!
Since you gave this four stars, would you mind telling me what I might be able to do to make it better? I try to get suggestions from my readers whenever something receives less than 5.
Either way, I?m glad you stopped by to read my work. Have a great day!!

So sorry, Erika - it was definitely meant to be five stars, so I will go straight back in now and correct it. sincere apologies. I actually really enjoyed it, so my fingers must have slipped.

This poem is traumatic and touching. It flows smoothly thanks to the careful use of rhymes. Overall you can afford to be pleased with yourself on this one.

What a fine poem Erika. My heart breaks for animals that have been neglected. Honestly, I'm a hunter and a commercial fisherman, and Lord knows I've taken a number of both animals and fish, but I always try to do it as humanely as possible. Actually, my hunting days are behind me, I don't want to kill anything now. However, I do make a living commercial fishing, but it's a different situation than with a domestic animal. In any event, this poem was a delight to read. Have a great evening.

The description of what this animal went through is heartbreaking. You make the reader think of the pain it went through, and use the picture in a way that it blends into the words beautifully. Well done.

What a great picture! I see this goat and he makes me smile! Enjoyed your poem with the rhyming last lines until the very end where it changes because the "haggard-staggered, pleading-bleeding" days are over due to the deep bond formed between you and Finnegan.
Best wishes in the contest!

What a sweetie, Finnegan is, Erika. You are his best friend. You did a great job with your contest entry. Your picture is perfect to pair with your well thought out words I like the way you formatted the words. I like the way you ended the first verse then rhymed the ending of the second with that word and the same for the next two verses. I'm thrilled that you took him home. Thanks for caring. Best wishes.
Thanks for sharing.
