I guess forgiveness begins with self and finishes with the asking God, although that should probably be the first stop. Beautifully written my friend, this form certainly complicates the poetic process, but my admiration for attempting it,well done, blessings Roy

Roy, yes, I must say as a staunch free verser, I truly struggled with this poetic style - something I would have never attempted with out the club challenge.

The black and white image of your poem was the first to grab my attention. The picture brings out the deep introspection of the poem. I like the structure of the sonnet.

Thank you, while I struggled introducing free verse into this sonnet format, I am pleased with the overall result.

Forgiving oneself is a tough one. Forgiving and loving oneself is definitely the answer to so many of our problems.
This looks like a complex and challenging sonnet form that you have completed masterfully.

Nicely done

Blessing

Janet, I thank you for the validation, Yes, this poetic style was quite unique. As a staunch free verser it was against my better nature to add free verse lines and a sonnet.

"One must always start with loving oneself" That is true. And forgiving is only good if that first step is taken. Some big politicians should learn that lesson.

And then: "Oh yes! There were many days and all manner
of ways where I stepped so high my soul
soared fine and I had far more ups than downs,
then it all near magically turned sour."

Good write, my friend. Bob

I really liked your use of complex form to create a feeling of contemplation and reflection and end with a conclusion of the importance to learn to forgive oneself as God has forgiven us, so that we can move forward in life.

Forgive Oneself.
This is such a simple mantra to repeat and remember to turn to when things go awry. But we don't do it often enough.
The Fusion Sonnet makes your verse an interesting read because of the repeat lines emphasizing the confusion concept.
Your writing skills are on full display with this sonnet JLR.
Thank you for taking up the writing challenge with this writing.

Wow, this is some challenge. How brave of you to do it and with such a meaningful way. The mistakes we make (and there are usually many) can bring us down, but how we handle them, if well, can make us soar. When we degrade ourselves we lose the stamina we need to keep ourselves on an even keel. Plan ahead for success again.

Hello, Jim,

I love your fusion sonnet entry for the potlatch poetry challenge. I don't write sonnets but I can appreciate them. Your poem made me think about my past... it's very well written.
